The Google TV remote has a "d-pad" and 11 buttons. These at the system level can be remapped so that it could be used as a more limited gamepad for games that require fewer buttons or are more leisurely. In addition, the remote also recognizes when we press a button for several seconds or several buttons at the same time, which would allow it to be used to exit that mode of operation or special buttons (for example, the Home or Stadia button, which would not be used in game mode just ).
Then, a category in Stadia (such as action, sports, puzzles, etc) that was for games that were compatible with that mode.
It is illogical that you require a Stadia controller for Just Dance, Trivial, Roguebook, Atari games, narrative games, puzzle games, question and answer parties, etc. And even simple adventure, vehicle and platform games where only a few buttons are used.
Summary, that the remote control that comes with Chromecast with Google TV could be used as a game controller for some games that were indicated for it.
At the hardware, system and software level, it is currently possible if Google wanted it so (in the Play Store there are categories for this type of game and through accessibility you can remap buttons), it should only be standardized so that the button remapping would be automatic when launch Stadia and have a combination of buttons to exit Stadia (press 2 or 4 buttons for a few seconds for example).
This could also open another market to use the remote on mobile phones, TV remotes that have a good number of buttons and if you do a new remote model thinking about it with a button dedicated to Stadia much better. For games that do not require too much continuous use, of course, and for tests.
This unique to free trials of specific games for it would be another very good way to promote Stadia and it is only necessary that the Stadia app interact with accessibility permissions to remap the controller without extra configuration, the rest is simple code actually that could do a third.
P.D.: I know that we can use the mobile as a command, but it is not the same feedback and it would be an added layer of complexity that could be made totally transparent with this.
It is an advertisement for a cover, and neither the background image nor the position with which the controller is used is useful today, but the idea of use is somewhat logical
Hi @Blackgem
That is a creative idea!
You are thinking out of the box! ![]()
If this can be implemented, it adds to the play from anywhere with anything theme.
Please send this feedback to the Stadia devs using the Feedback option within the Stadia app or stadia.com. ![]()
Brilliant idea @Blackgem!!!!!!
