Terrible tradeoff HDR or 5.1 Surround with Stadia Pro

Jump to Best Response

I have an LG OLED55C6V and an Onkyo TX-NR676e receiver. When I put the CC4k in the tv I only get HDR but no surround sound through optical link to the receiver (other throughput options do work). If I put CC4k in the receiver I get surround sound but no HDR throughput to the TV (other throughput options like ps4pro do work). Tried several things and both options should work but no such luck.

Anyone have an idea how to get things to work in this setup?

Nothing you can do about passing audio through optical (Stadia surround sound is Multichannel PCM, optical does not support this).  Even ARC won't do it, you need eARC support on both devices before more than two channels of PCM will fit).

As for the other way around, you probably just haven't enabled "enhanced hdmi" (or similarly named) on the input port either on your receiver or TV, so HDR and other high bandwidth features of HDMI are probably just disabled.  Even on my TV/Receiver which are newer models than yours, you need to actually enable support for this stuff as the default is disabled.  Since I use Sony and Denon I can't help you with specifics.

thanks.....I've tried many things by now and all don't work. Very frustrating. When I use the same HDMI port on the receiver I now have my PS4Pro on where HDR works......still with stadia no HDR pass through to the TV. Hopefully there will be an update that fixes this in the future. My TV and receiver are not that old so crazy that it doesn't work out of the box.
