I don't believe that Chromecasts outside of the ones shipped with a controller have Stadia support yet so I wouldn't do that without buying a Premiere Edition.

Not true. You simply need to enable preview builds and the CCU will download a firmware update that has Stadia compatibility. Multiple confirmed reports on reddit and even here - check 3rd post. (https://community.stadia.com/t5/Stadia-on-Chromecast/Using-existing-Chromecast-Ultra-devices/td-p/34
You'll need to sync your controller with the chromecast each time you switch CCU but it's only a 4 button press process. Very easy.
Each time you move to a new screen, the CCU displays a Stadia link code which is just a short series of controller button presses which tells the service which CCU you're going to use. It's quick and easy and I honestly can't think of a better solution for indicating which CCU you're sitting in front of than what they've put in place.
