Nvidia Shield Pro can't activate HDR in the Stadia APP

Jump to Best Response

Hi everybody,

i tried everything out to activate HDR but it's still grey out! I activate Dolby Vision on the SHIELD (HDMI Settings)! I put my new Sony Bravia to Game Mode. I had a PS5 it worked out on the same HDMI Port.

Any Ideas?

Thank you

Hello @F8Tarnished

The NVIDIA Shield hardware can decode VP9 (the video codec Stadia uses), but only in standard dynamic range – not high dynamic range (profile 2). This is a limitation of the Shield Pro hardware.

Why not Zoidberg?

Do you have an active Stadia Pro subscription?  It's required for HDR.

Good call, I own one and it didn't even cross my mind.  It's easy to forget that as powerful and useful as the Shield is even the latest model is based on silicon from an age ago.
