No 5.1 Sound / Kein 5.1 Sound

Hello,

i havea issue to get 5.1 sound on my Soundbar.

I have a LG OLED B7D, connected with ARC to a LG SK9Y Soundbar. (Every device work fine with Dolby Atmos, DD etc.)
The Chromecast is connected to the TV, i get only Stereo sound.

Can someone tell which configuration is wrong with my chromecast Ultra?

Stadia multi-channel audio is not encoded in Dolby Digital or Atmos. It uses another encoder optimized for low-latency. So, the audio coming out of the Chromecast has been decoded into uncompressed PCM, which doesn't fit in the ARC channel. In short, to get surround sound from a Chromecast Ultra, you will need to connect it directly to the Soundbar and feed the HDMI video from there to the TV.

Since a couple of days 5.1 doesn’t work anymore with a lot of receivers including mine. Multiple threads on Reddit. The chromecast just serves PCM 2.0 and the status in Stadia says that the device is unsupported.

Exact same problem for me. 5.1 was working fine yesterday with my Denon AVC-X3700H. Since today I only receive PCM 2.0 when using Stadia. Usually Stadia gives me PCM 5.1.

When I check my connection it says "5.1 Surround Sound: Unsupported Device". 4K and HDR is fine.

No problems with Netfilx, which passes through DD+ just fine. So I assume the problem is within the Stadia app.

@basvo83 and @Broncanius can you use the "Feedback" feature in the Stadia app to report this issue to the Google team? This isn't a great time of year for quick resolution, but more reports will help get it surfaced.

Hi @Broncanius @d0xs @basvo83 @JohnZoidberg @DerSaSa !

Update from the product team: We need a bit more information. I realize @JohnZoidberg has helpfully asked some of you to file feedback, but I must ask that you try once more. Please make sure to check the box which says "system logs," then include the following hashtag in the body of the report: #5.1issues

Here's a screenshot of what that would look like: Screenshot_20201216-153228.png

Doing so makes tracking reports on this particular issue much easier. We are looking into this and may be able to sneak a fix in before the end of the year. I can't promise that, but we're working hard to try.

Thanks!

OK, I will do so. But will this include only loggings from the Stadia app on my phone or from my chromecast as well? As I have the problem when using Stadia with my chromecast ultra.

Hi @ChrisFromGoogle, thanks for responding to this issue. Wanted to follow your steps right now but I am happy to say that 5.1 works again. Just tested it with Cyberpunk. I guess the fix has just been pushed? Thank you.
