Jump to Best Response
On the app as per instructions I have selected my avatar and tried to link the CC to my account but the app just hangs on Account access. Please help.

I have found a solution.

I was using an old iPhone 6s. This morning I updated my iPad to 13.2.3 and it works.

It went through the accessing account stage and I have now happily linked my account to one of my CCU. Happy days.

Are you able to see the linking code or are you not getting to that point yet?

Do these steps help?

I have the linking code on ambient mode. What I mean is when I press and hold the stadia button in the controller it starts the CCUstadia app but instead of going to the game home screen it brings up the requirement to link my account with the screen. It gives me instructions to tap on my icon in my phone app and select link account to screen. I do this and the next screen then just hangs with a blank loading screen. Does this make sense?

Yep, I'm tracking now. I'm still waiting on my hardware to be delivered so wasn't sure of the exact process but wanted to make sure that you'd seen any relevant troubleshooting steps. Unfortunately I haven't come across anything which describes what you're seeing, but I'll keep an eye out and report back if I do!

For me it was the Chromecast version

I think I had something similar. Are you using the Ultra that came with your Stadia or an existing one you have? I was going mad at the linking device and it just hung for ages. Turns out the version of firmware that runs on packaged Ultra is higher and supports Stadia. Others don't have the update yet...

"You can check if your Chromecast Ultra can run Stadia by checking if it's running version 1.42.180348 or above."

Something that's worth a try that has been mentioned in another thread.

Ensure you're using the CCU that came with it. I'm using my existing one and no luck.

Am gonna try it when i finish work, but wanted to let ya all know

Possible solution for folx with the Stadia provided CCU: Factory reset controller (press and hold for 6 seconds the capture and assitant buttons), factory reset the CCU. Once the CCU finishes resetting, go through the CCU set up as normal (Using the Home app), but skip the Stadia setup. Once the set up finishes, you should be at an ambient screen. If you are, then power up the controller and go through the controller setup, when that finishes, use the Stadia code from the ambient screen to link them.

I tried your steps but it’s the same problem like before, the app tries to connect, but nothing happened. It’s the same problem like before, whenever I try to connect my Stadia account with the ccu from the stadia bundle, nothing happened,I reseted both but it didn’t solve the problem. It would be great if google or some support member could say something to this problem. This problem is nasty.

yeah as we've all paid the $129 and waited 6 months and find out it doesn't work... very aggravating and disappointing.

Same problem here. I checked the CCU version and reconfigured everything three times but every time I get stuck when connecting the stadia account to CCU. -.-

Hi, I tried again to reset all devices and reconnected everything from scratch. As before the app did only show the loading screen and I left it on this screen for maybe 3 minutes. Then I cancelled the setup and tried to start a game. AND IT WORKED! For some reason the app did not confirm that the account could be linked but in the background it must have worked. Even it it seems stuck, please try to start a game. Good luck everyone!

did you try to start a game from the TV or the app? on the tv i can’t do anything because it tells me to go to the stadia app to link the CCU. if I disconnect the controller it just sits there with the link code.

The stadia app on my CCU also tells me to add my account using my phone. However when I open the Stadia App on my iPhone I can start games on the CCU.

Oh and just for the record: I paired the controller with the CCU before I started the game.

But Stadia still is not connected to the CCU right? I have the same Problem and only starting games via the app works. I still can't connect my account to the CCU so i dont need the app to start a game. Its just stuck in "Account access" loading screen forever in the stadia app.

Hi Rico, Thanks for the suggestion. Updating iOS to the latest version fixed the problem for me, too.

My chromecast shipped with 1.42.180348, and I've got the latest iOS version.  I'm stuck on the spinning wheel like everyone else.  But I can still play if I boot a game up from the app rather than the controller.

Hello. I’m experiencing the exact same problem as you. I’ve tried everything I can think off for the past 4hrs! Have you managed to find a solution?

You're further than me. I don't even get the chromecast to show up in the stadia app for me to select.

This is happening because google was being late pushing the updated firmware out to the chromecast ultras. I had the same issue on 2 of my CCU. How I forced the firmware update was I logged into the CCU settings and joined the "preview program". Then I did the reboot option through the google home app. During the reboot, it updated to the newer firmware and the issues were fixed. Note: you might have to reboot multiple times to get the update.

Similar issue here. I get to the 'Adding your account' screen on the phone (Chrome cast just states 'finish up on you phone') - but it just spins and does nothing. Have restarted phone, and CCU to no avail Tried multiple times, same situation every time Have left it for over 20 mins on the last occasion just in case it's a speed thing. Sad times

Greetings,

I am having a similar issue, I get the controller linked to the CCU, and the message about adding the CCU to my account.  When I get to the page to add my account the Stadia app says that it cannot find the CCU...  I go into the Home app and it cannot contact the CCU either at that point.

Please note that to get this point I had to have connectivity to both the controller and the CCU from my phone.  I am guessing that there is a bug in the CCU firmware.

You need to turn on the "Preview Program" option ON to FORCE a Chromecast Ultra Update within the device settings in the Google Home App. Then select REBOOT within the Google home app. Then you will get the latest Chromecast firmware that supports stadia, and get around this bull**bleep** that no one told you that needed to be done in order to get a pre-existing ultra ready for stadia.
