Help with Controller and CCU

Jump to Best Response

A couple of days ago while playing Fallen Order my controller disconnected (lost connection). Stadia had given the heads up about the connection quality and it was obvious there was a problem going by the quality of content on screen, lag, artifecting etc so I was expecting it.

At the time this happened a speed test confirmed I was getting speeds of 35mbps though. The only things that use the 5ghz channel (as recommended) are my CCU and Stadia controller and my mobile phone.

So, I went to connect my controller using the pairing method/code and I was taken to the game select screen as per usual. I selected Fallen Order and the game loaded but the controller disconnected again. An on screen prompt suggested that I needed to pair the controller again. Using the pairing method did not work. However the light on the controller was a solid white after I entered the code. And the message to pair the controller remained on screen.

I tried to set up the controller using the Stadia app but the pairing code didn't work. The CCU  home screen display on my TV still shows the old pairing code, even though it suggested a new one as part of this new set up process, if that makes sense.

Long story short I have reset the controller, reset the CCU and even went as far as deleting the WIFI access from the CCU. Problem is, now I am trying to set up the CCU but the Android Home app can not find the CCU! It cycles between looking for the device and then a page asking me to select which 'type' of device I am trying to set up.

The online help guide for the Android Home app and CCU are either out of date or just wrong when it comes to troubleshooting. A lot of the menus and options it suggests I enter do not appear in my Android Home app.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Edit: The CCU, upon power up, says that it is connecting to the WiFi network that I had deleted from the device. As I deleted the device from the Home app in order to attempt a fresh install, the device no longer shows in the Home app, so I am not able to change the network it connects to, and again, when trying to add the device to the Home app, the device doesn't appear. I have my phone set to the 5GHZ channel as per above. Tried changing my phone to 2.5GHZ and still the CCU isn't being identified by the the Home app.

Edit 2: I factory reset the CCU again and set it up, the Home app recognised the CCU and the 5GHZ access this time, however when I tried to set it up it told me that it couldn't and that I should make sure that "access point (AP) isolation is disabled". I've never had this problem before and it's not something that I have enabled myself. Set up the CCU and Stadia controller on the 2.4GHZ connection this time. And it worked. Bizarrely image quality is better at times when compared to 5GHZ although found that it isn't as consistent. Thoughts?

I had the same problem a few months ago, looking for information I found a thread on Reddit in which it was pointed to the connection of the Stadia controller. Apparently, there are problems when the controller is connected to the 5GHz network.

I currently have the Stadia controller connected to the 2.4GHz network and the CCU to 5GHz, and I have no connection problems.

It is not a problem that everyone has but it is something to keep in mind when bugs like yours appear

I found a solution.

In the router settings I disabled "Smart Setup".

Don't know how or why it works but it does. Yay me!

Hi @Baz,

That is some strange behaviour. What kind of router are you using?
I noticed my optimal setup is as follows:

I have got BT Smart Hub. I've touched none of the settings on the thing other than to split the SSID when I got Stadia last year.

I my trying to give it a try but the CCU will not, again, pick up the 5GHZ band. Very frustrating.

Think I'll try resetting the router, see if that helps?
