I can confirm that ARC only support 2.0 in my setup. My TV /receiver do not support EARC, though that should be able to forward the signal.
If I put the CC into my yamaha directly I'm getting a 3/2/0 PCM signal (5.0). This is surround and I can hear that over my headphones. However, I also feel that I'm missing some bass compared to my ps4pro destiny 2 gameplay.
Ps4pro gives a 7.1 PCM signal AND supports dolby digital/DTS for ARC/optical paths, that's much better for surround.
Yeah I'm literally able to get surround sound out of everything but stadia. I've never had an issue where I don't get surround sound with my current set-up until stadia. Hopefully this can get updated.
Yeah I don't get why it's not outputting sound properly @GraceFromGoogle
Hello Friend You should turn on the option in stadia controller
Settings ->surround sound->5.1 surround sound(PCM)
same issue. no 5.1 signal to AVR shows 4K HDR stereo. game shows 4K HDR 5.1.
setup:
CCU ethernet to 1Gbps fiber (display shows excellent connection)
CCU into HDCP 2.2 port on AVR
AVR to TV
any other source that plays 5.1 (netflix, amazon, etc) on the CCU plays 5.1 only stadia will not play 5.1.
other LPCM sources play fine even PCM sources play without issue on AVR.
Yep, thats the same exact issue i'm having. Glad I'm not the only one.
update: i got it working
i did a factory reset on the CCU and synced the stadia app and controller to it again and it started outputting 5.1 to my AVR.
Hmm... I'll have to try this when I get home.
I just got an email from stadia support confirming there is an issue with 5.1 surround sound and they are working on a fix.
Response from Google:
My name is Carlos, one of the Senior Specialist here at Google.
The 5.1 Surround Sound that doesn't work has been escalated already to our team. We're still waiting for a response on how to move forward.
We cannot provide any compensation, if you're unsatisfied with the product you can return it.
I find this to be an underwhelming response and rather flippant - if you don't like it, return it. There was a degree of trust we placed in Google when we pre-ordered and it should not be dismissed. If I was a prospective customer considering buying into Stadia right now, and I saw this then there is no way I would make the purchase.
Add me to the list of people where 5.1 is not working. I have the CC ultra plugged in to an HDMI switcher with digital optical output. I need this for my old but still good soundbar. Other systems - PS4Pro, XBox One X both output bitstream 5.1 great. I can get 5.1 to output from the CC when playing Google Play movies no problem. Netflix or Stadia are only 2.0.
Hope this gets fixed soon, I otherwise love Stadia. This will keep me from using it though for new releases.
I have this issue but not constantly.
I have the CC connected to my Onkyo receiver which is connected to my LG B8 TV.
I can detect the input stream from the chromecast through the on-screen display of my receiver.
I've noticed that sometimes, when starting a new session of Stadia and then starting a new game, I will get a 2.0 PCM stream even though my connection is Excellent and shows 4K 5.1.
I can cast Netflix at those instances and receive a 5.1 input stream on my receiver.
Shutting down and restarting Stadia doesn't solve it BUT the solution which works every time is REBOOTING the chromecast through its settings in the Google Home app on my phone. That solves the problem for me but of course it is very annoying as it seems like every other session I have to restart the chromecast in order to receive a proper 5.1 PCM input stream.
Same issue here.
I have to restart the Chromecast, then I get 5.1.
Yes, very frustrating. This is literally one of the top issues on this community forum, yet NOBODY from Google has responded or given an update. They want us to pay for pro, but instead of getting what they promise, we get upscaled 4k and stereo sound. Man, makes me really want to stay subscribed. @GraceFromGoogle @ChrisFromGoogle
Same issue here. I'm connected to my TV with a digital optical cable and my TV does support native app 5.1 support for apps like Netflix with no problem. With the Chromecast and stadia the sound is only simulated with Dolby Pro Logic II meaning that it's getting a stereo signal and not the true 5.1...stadia does not support Dolby surround at this point due to not having a license? The Teufel Concept E Digital Im using doesn't have an HDMI input so I can only use the optical digital cable and there's no plugging in the Chromecast directly.
I hope they add Dolby surround sound soon. At launch they said 5.1 support and just supporting the free non licensed codec of lpcm/pcm is not cool, Google. At least allow Bitstream like other consoles do - my TV should be able to handle that since there's an option for it as well.
When this is openly available to all people, people are going to pay for the pro subscription thinking they will get 5.1 sound. They wont get 5.1 sound and they will complain in masses. This is a problem now, but will be a huge problem come launch to everyone.
I have the same issue here. HDMI ARC as well as optical sound from TV to receiver results in no 5.1 sound.
If Netflix is steamed using the new Chromecast Ultra, 5.1 sound is working as expected.
Resetting the Chromecast Ultra to factory defaults like proposed in one comment did not help here ![]()
What can I do to make things work like expected with the Pro account?
Unfortunately not getting any official help from Google here
Hi,
any news on it? It it's really disappointing when a feature we have paid for is not working at all.
Is 5.1 surround sound with Chromecast working for anybody here?
Best regards
