Game not showing up in shared child account on chromecast

I have my daughter linked in our family sharing, the game shows up in the stadia app on her phone, but when we use her account on the chromecast, no games show up. Any ideas?

Hi @Edgedancer

Do you see this behavior with a specific game? Could you give me the title please? Do you have any screenshot to share from phone and chromecast (photo)?

@Edgedancer When you say, the games don't show up, where is it from? What I usually do for playing Stadia games through Chromecast - sign in to Chromecast with the person's account (in this case your daughter). Then you can start the game through the Stadia app on your phone (make sure Chromecast and phone on the same network).

There should be a little rectangle box below the play button that specifies the device you want to play from, so make sure it references to the Chromecast network name. After that, start your Stadia controller (might need to re-pair if needed). But since you're able to see the games on the Stadia app, can you try and see if this method works?

Stadia Guides are not employed by Google. Opinions are my own.

We added her account to the chromecast, sign in, and it says she needs to add games from the store.

In the app, the game shows up, but doesn't have any drop down for where to play, like I see in mine.

I've verified she's on the same wifi as the chromecast (she needed to be for us to add her account to the chromecast).

Is the issue you're having on a Chromecast Ultra?

Yes, it came with the stadia controller, and I've used it to play the game from my account.

Log into her account in a browser at www.stadia.com.  Do the games you expect to be accessible on her account show up there?

Yes, it shows up there with a "Shared by family" annotation.

Hi @Edgedancer, thanks for answering those questions from our helpful community members. I have one additional question: is your child's account configured for a minor? As a follow-up, is the game you are attempting to share rated for audiences older than your child's account? This could be the reason it does not show up, but I need additional context to explore other possibilities.

It is an account for a minor, but she can see the game on her phone and the computer, it just won't let her play it on the chromecast.

Hi again @Edgedancer, thanks for that added context. We're looking into this issue further and I will provide an update when I have one to share. Thanks for your help and for your patience.

Is Family Link involved with this at all? Do you need to approve any game requests for a child account?

I did have to go in and configure her account since it's a linked child account. If it were related to that, though, I'd expect it would show up in the app on her phone either.

Has there been any resolution for this issue?

I have ran into this issue as well. Games show up in Stadia app and via browser, but do not show up via Chromecast.

1. Child Google account set up

2. Family link app set up

3. Stadia family sharing setup

4. Specified age ratings for games

Update:

Blame Family Link app. Although each game was shared individually and rating content was allowed, the game must be opened via the Stadia app first in order to send a request to play the game. Once approved the game then shows up on the Chromecast.

Just had to say a massive thank you for this. Have been trying to figure it out myself today. Had everything sorted and all I needed to so was request to play the game. Such a backwards approach and could be way better but finally sorted. Thank you again I was questioning my tech savvy skills a lot this morning!!!
