Device hdr not supported

Jump to Best Response

I subscribed to stadia pro, for hdr on my chromecast ultra on my 4k sony hdr tv.

The stadia app on sony 4k hdr tv via chromecast ultra says "hdr is not supported by this device." under settings.

It used to work in the past. What happened?

The hdr function is greyed out. Can't select/enable it.

Non pro stadia does works fine. And most of all else is functioning properly.

I fixed this! There's a setting in the Google TV menu (not the TV's display settings menu) that enables HDR on the HDMI inputs. It only worked for HDMI Inputs 2 and 3 for me.

Hey,

so you mean that before Stadia Pro everything worked normal without problems on that device (TV)?

You mention that the Stadia App is showing you this, it might be - because you were going to the settings in the Stadia App - that your mobile device (phone) is not HDR compatible. Can you try if you have any option on the TV to change the settings to 4K there? As far as I know, Google changed this, so now you can choose that setting on the device you're playing Stadia with (if I am not mistaken).

If this also doesn't work, I am running out of ideas here, so from my point of view it might also help to contact the Stadia support with your specific case.

Hi thanks for the reply. I'll check this link out. Thanks for sharing it.

And yeah this sony 4k tv supports hdr (beautifully) and tv stadia app via Chromecast ultra shows hdr greyed out with the message that the tv doesn't support hdr.

@Chufu-Hey, I just wanted to say. I have found other people who don't have 4k and HDR working properly since june or so.

I have also heard rumors that 4k and HDR is temporarily disabled since june to reduce internet traffic load due to world circumstances. If this is true, then I have been wasting my time trying to find a fix/issue. stadia support also cannot find the cause of the problem or solution.

Really weird issue. I mean maybe someone here in the community has another idea, otherwise I can only suggest to send feedback in the app or on stadia.google.com so that the engineers can read it and have a look into it (if it might be a bug), especially when the stadia support was unable to help you too.

Maybe it's also worth to check your device again, I don't know if anything on it has changed (e.g. update or anything) and that's why this function is greyed out for you.

Not sure though if the rumors that you heard are true, because some players can still play in HDR and 4K, so if this would have been disabled, believe me, many more would spread out the word.

HDR takes up next to nothing bandwidth wise. So I wouldn't go with this explanation.

I have this same issue. Sony XBR-43X800E with chromecast ultra -  The TV supports HDR 10 and HLG. I'm able to stream HDR content via Netflix without a problem. For some reason, Stadia says "HDR is not supported by this device."

Have the same problem on a Samsung Frame. I'm able to stream HDR movies over VoD Service, but Stadia always says that HDR is not supported by this device..

Same issue here. I'm a Pro user since november 2019 and HDR was working on my tv. Now the option is disabled and Stadia says that it's not supported.

I think maybe it didn't work, or it wasn't working on release. But maybe the hdr option was there to be enabled, even if it didn't work. And then later it got greyed out. Because I didn't really notice much a difference between hdr and disabled hdr on stadia release day. However...

I contacted support, and they concluded it was a faulty chromecast ultra, after long contact between different companies involved, and offered a replacement which I didn't had the time to respond and send, so I passed.

Have a Sony XBR-65X930E 4k HDR TV and Sony STR-DH790 Receiver.  Both are HDR10 compatible but Stadia's HDR will not work through the receiver.  If I go directly into the TV HDR works and then use the HDMI ARC to get audio from TV to receiver. I also made sure to unplug the Chromecast power when testing HDMI ports between receiver and tv because I noticed that when I did get HDR working and then plugged the ultra into the receiver that the Stadia menu still said I had HDR but when I played the game there was no HDR.  After cycling the power to the Chromecast it then said I had no HDR.  It took a power cycle for that info to update properly.

I did have trouble getting HDR working even when plugged into the TV with one of my two Chromecast Ultras but the other one worked.

I also have a new Chromecast TV plugged into the receiver and all streaming HDR video content works perfect.  Only my Ultra with Stadia that does not work through the receiver with HDR.  Hopefully Stadia will get added to the Chromecast TV soon and I won't need to use the ultra.  Took about 2 to 3 hours of troubleshooting to get HDR working.  Not a great experience.

This is the exact solution I've been looking for since Stadia launched. Thanks a lot! You made my day!

If you have a Sony 4k android TV with a chromecast ultra, this odd placed setting is one you need to be aware of, not only for gaming!

Ty, after a long time it seems this is the only solution that worked and still works. On my sony bravia 4k tv.

I have the same issue and it appears that it's my HDMI splitter does not support HDR. The splitter does support 4K but not HDR which is strange.

I would imagine this could cause issues for a lot of people especially if like me you use the Chromecast with a wired Ethernet connection and can't have the Chromecast close to the TV.

Hi everyone,

It looks like we have a few different suggestions for how to fix this issue. Since this is an older post, we'll go ahead and lock it now. If there are any additional questions, feel free to create a new topic.

Thank you,

James
