Chromecast with Google TV 4k resolution

Jump to Best Response

Playing stadia via Chromecast w/Google TV. It will not permit me to select 4k resolution. No issues with tv or internet speed. 4k grayed out as an option.

Anyone else? workaround?

Is the Chromecast connected directly to the TV or through an old sound bar or something?  If not connected directly to the TV, connect it to a port on the TV confirmed to support 4K HDR 60hz - sometimes not all ports on a TV support this though this is rare with models from recent years.  Take everything between the TV and the Chromecast out of the equation.  Also double check the input you're using has "Enhanced HDMI" or similar enabled, sometimes they default to an older standard for compatibility.

You didn't mention if other apps on the Chromecast will output 4K/HDR content correctly of if this problem is limited to Stadia.

@DrAbuLuca Apologies for the basic question, but it's good to have to understand your situation. Can you provide your make/model of the TV? Also, are you currently subscribed to Stadia Pro?

@DrAbuLuca Everything looks good. Unfortunately I don't have the TV so can't really test. Technically you should be able to play in 4K.

Is your Chromecast for Google TV running the latest firmware update? How about the Stadia app version?

Hi @DrAbuLuca,

How about other apps on your Chromecast Google TV?
Are these getting 4K support or is your Chromecast Google TV not putting out any 4K signal?

Sometimes swapping HDMI port could work as some TV's have different kind of HDMI ports (2.0 vs 2.1 etc). :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Best I can see is that it says "device your using does not support HDR, or have HDR enabled"

Fixed! As you said, Chromecast w GTv right into the tv. But had to set the ARC HDMI to have the audio run through the receiver.
