I read that the Chromecast Ultra update is out. Does Stadia work with the standard Chromecast HD1080 (no Ultra) or not?
@Liskin : Only CCU currently, no support for the older Chromecast has been announced yet, but that doesn't mean to say that it won't be possible at a later date.
For now, the focus on the early adopters (Founders) and those that have purchased the Premier Edition has been to provide 4K support on TVs via CCU. Since the older Chromecast only supports 1080p, there is little reason to push for support of this device at this point in time IMHO. Perhaps once the base edition is available to purchase that approach may change, but still nothing confirmed from Google one way or the other.
@Mad_Dog_Bravo Thanks for the reply. My nephew has the PS4 and I wanted to give him the buddy pass to let him try Stadia during the Christmas holidays. It is difficult to convince people who have PS4 or XBOX on 60-inch TV to play Stadia on PC
@Liskin : Yes, but until the Base edition gets released in 2020, Stadia is still more suitable to those that wish to be early adopters or those that are OK with purchasing a CCU.
It’s not ideal for the Buddy Pass folks that either don’t have a CCU or have one built-in to a TV or NVidea shield etc., that gives them to just a limited Chrome experience with lower resolution... That discrepancy will hopefully disappear early in 2020 with the Base edition.
Not the news that folks want to really hear, but about all that can be done without investing in a CCU at this moment in time.
