i have only one issue with this. You need a bigger chrome cast with a fan in it. I have to keep a fan on mine at all times so it does not over heat. After an hour with no fan it over heats and laggs out bad.
Hey @SmokeyMcpot,
in the past there was an issue with some Chromecasts that were too hot, seemed to be a technical issue which you might need a repair for. That in general the Chromecast is getting hot is normal though.
Here you can find some more information about it:
If even after unplugging it, reboot and/or factory reset it's not getting better, I would recommend to get in contact with the Chromecast support team as you might need a replacement.
I tend to get a lot of lag spikes when it's hot. I put a fan on it and it helps some. All I'm saying is they should make a slightly bigger device with an internal fan and I bet it would run almost flawlessly.
Chromecast Ultra is getting phased out for the Chromecast with Google TV. I haven't seen any reports of that overheating, but it doesn't support Stadia yet (it will soon-ish, in 2021). I've never had any of my Chromecast Ultras overheat, the one I use for Stadia the most is just hanging off the back of my receiver which itself generates a lot of heat but is out in the open. If you've got yours tucked in a cramped enclosed space, move it somewhere where there is at least some air circulation and it should be fine.
