Chrome cast reboots Sony TV with Android TV

Whenever I stop using the chrome cast and then go to use it a few hours later, I've noticed that my TV goes through the entire boot screen like as if it was unplugged. Is there a way around this as I really don't want to keep on taking out the chrome cast all the time.

Also shouldn't Google make an app for these TVs?

This is very interesting... because I noticed my XBR65X900E doing the very same thing shortly after I hooked up the CCU to it for Stadia and never had an issue with it going into and out of standby before it. I think it's related to HDMI-CEC, and possibly HDR mode switching. I seem to have avoided this happening again lately by just giving it a second after "shutting down" stadia, to return to SDR mode etc. before turning the TV "off" OR by switching it to TV (antenna) mode or even just the home screen prior to turning the tv "off". Personally I think it happens when you quit the game and then put the TV on standby too quickly.

Try just giving it a second to switch out of HDR mode, and then changing to a different input before turning the TV off and see if it keeps happening.

Well... following my own advice still results in me going to use the TV and having it go through the whole boot sequence once in a while.

Have you actually verified that disconnecting the chromecast from the TV stops this from happening?

I have done everything possible and it still reboots. I am forced to take the chrome cast ultra out which isn't ideal as my TV is mounted. Is there anything else that can be done to stop this?

Mine has definitely been acting better lately, what I've been doing is waiting a few seconds after shutting Stadia down, then switching to the TV (Channels) input, then finally suspending the TV.   Could just be coincidence.

I think that we found a solution. Go to settings and find "Bravia Sync". disconnect the second option (turn off devices HDMI with the tv)

bad news. My solution didn't work. My tV is still rebooting. For sure is caused by the chromecast.

@SilverFoxLusoWe know that already. None had this issue before the Stadia. So obviously is something between the chromecast and the Sony's TV.

There is a new version of the firmware for Bravia TVs, launched the last november. v6.6545. at least for Europe. check if your tv are included in the list of devices compatibles and if you have this last version. Hope it helps

I haven't changed anything, and my TV definitely has not received an update, but I haven't encountered the reboot issue in quite some time now. I'm not sure what happened, I've just been following the practice of switching to TV/Antenna input before turning the TV off after using Stadia.

Hello, I have the exaclty same problem.

Is not always, but many times, when I turn on my tv (Sony Bravia 55 4k HDR Android TV) the Android logo appears on the screen, and then the TV rebooting. Never happened before, it began after install the chromecast ultra for Stadia. I have a friend with the similar or same television than me with the same issue.

I also have the same issue, my Sony has its own Chromecast built-in and now with Stadia I also have Chromecast Ultra, could there be a conflict? After some hours, typically when I switch on the TV the following day, I have to wait until Android TV launches, as when it's rebooted. My Sony TV has Android TV 8 (and it won't be updated to any other version). Shall we try blocking Chromecast built-in? How can we do that?

My Sony tv was doing this, originally i had all Bravia link options totally disabled and it was rebooting. I have now enabled the top Bravia toggle in the options and as yet it has not rebooted. I also find that i have the "automatically enable game mode" setting turned on the chromecast in the google home app but it does not actually work. Has anyone else had success with this?

The TV actually needs to support ALLM for auto game mode to work, mine doesn't (X900E). But your TV should have a built in Auto mode on the picture options which does the same thing when it detects a 60hz screen mode which the chromecast will switch to when playing Stadia.

@Shambolic you mean you disabled the game mode for the Chromecast Ultra via the Home app? Does it work for you still? I'm trying out now, and will now in a few day if it works consistently. Hopefully.

I have game mode enabled in the home app, moved Chromecast to hdmi2 (was in hdmi3 before) not had a reboot for weeks now. I also put tv into tv broadcast mode before turning it off.

Okay, thanks for the info.

Tried disabling the game mode in the Home app, but it didn't had any effect. When I started the TV, it opened the Netflix app (where I left it) and after 1-2 seconds it rebooted. Mostly it works if shut down when in the Netflix app (I guess what matter is whether the Chromecast input is active or not).

Now trying to have the Chromecast on HDMI port 1 instead of 2. Hopefully that will help. HDMI 3 is my only ARC port, so I need it for the soundbar.

The chromecast ultra needs to be on ports 2 or 3 on most models or you lose 4K/60hz with HDR capability as those tend to be the only ports that support it.

Moving the CCU to another HDMI port didn't help. Which perhaps was fortunate, as HDMI port 1 doesn't have 4k60fps support.

Have now tried to disable auto picture mode in the TV settings. Was previously on 'Auto (24p)', now 'off'. Let's see if it helps. Chromecast Ultra has automatic game mode enabled through the Google Home app.

I know that my XBR65X900E (2017) doesn't support ALLM  (auto game mode), I'm not sure which year Sony may have started supporting that.

I recently upgraded receivers to a Denon X3600H and plugged the CCU into that instead of the TV and have only had one time in weeks where the TV rebooted during standby so even that wasn't a total fix for the problem.

@Shambolic

In my case I never use the "game mode". Honestly, I don't like it. The image looks poor and with less definition.. in my opinion.

but.. I tried once that option... and not, didnt work.

Same for me with my Bravia, changing HDMI ports had no effect.

I will try to switch off Auto Game Mode in Google Home, and also automatic HDMI device switching in the Bravia options.

I wouldn't do that as it's getting rid of a perfectly working setting because a poor software design.

Game mode unrelated.

My workaround was to buy a cheap smart plug and setup a google assistant routine where when I say "turn off tv" it turns off the chromecast that is currently connected to smartplug and also turns off tv. This works as when I turn on tv, the chromecast is still off and tv turns on with no issue.

Well this would be a too much of a workaround for me, I'd rather live with the extra seconds the TV needs to start. (or wait to try with integrated Chromecast)

HDMI Port is set to Game Mode anyhow, so it should make no difference. At least it's worth a try.

Goal is: fix it, vendors

Hi @SilverFoxLuso Are you sure that your chromecast receive the software updates if you turn off the device completely?

Guys, in the other hand I need your help. I'm in contact with stadia support via email. They told me to try to restore the factory settings of the chromecast and change it to port HDMI 4 (just to check if this happens even in ports with no HDR suport) Unfortunately the tv rebooted several times after that.

Now, they asking me what is my tv model and if I have onother tv at home. I don't have any other tv at home but I think is important if we share our Bravias models, because this affect many models and not to specific one. So I can share that info with Stadia support. I am assume that all of us have a Sony Bravia

My model is: KD55XF9005

Thanks

Mine is KD-65XF8505.

TV doesn't reboot anymore, when Bravia Sync Device is removed, and automatic switching on/off of HDMI Devices is deactivated. This is fine for me, so I didn't try to break down what option solved it.

Problem existed on both HDR and non HDR ports.

Disabling HDMI CEC is unfortunately a non-starter for most people as it takes a huge convenience factor away from Stadia and the Chromecast in general, especially if you're using an AVR which introduces a whole other layer of turning things on and switching inputs.

It's very likely a Sony problem, who still have not seemed to have released any kind of firmware in quite some time for my X900E... but if Google can fix this on their end that would be awesome.
