Cannot link Chromecast Ultra to stadia

Jump to Best Response
Hello, I got my founders edition today and on step 4 of linking stadia account to Chromecast, the stadia app can't see any Chromecast. Even though they are on the same network and firewall rules between internet and devices are wide open. Still nothing. Stadia app says no Chromecast devices found. When I turn on my stadia controller, the Chromecast instantly launches stadia. Thanks for the help.

Anyone having a similar issue like mine.. just got off the phone with google. I was trying to set my CCU up via hardwire straight out of the box. He said to unplug the hardwire and set it up via wireless. I did and it worked. Also if your router or access point has “ap isolation” turn it off otherwise it will not communicate correctly with the controller.

Hit the reset button on the chromecast - this was bothering me to NO END but there is a small circle button on the chromecast HDMI thing you need to press..once it's blinking you'll be able to  find your device, also make sure you click your chromecast on the GOOGLE home app..that was another thing that confused me.

"You can check if your Chromecast Ultra can run Stadia by checking if it's running version 1.42.180348 or above."

If you're using an existing Ultra, it probably won't work. Use the one that shipped with your Stadia. It baffled me at first. If you are, at least it rules it out.

Same issue here. Google Home can find the Chromecast just fine but Stadia App just states that: No nearby Chromecasts are ready to add an account. They're on the same network and my Chromecast has the proper version 1.42.180348

Are you using the Chromecast that came with your controller?  Even if you're on a firmware version that matches it seems there is something else that is preventing setting up on Chromecasts that you already had prior to receiving the kit.  A future update should enable the "older" Chromecast Ultras to work during setup, I imagine.

Okay I think your problems are that you didn't set up the chromecast FIRST using the Google Home app per the instructions?  You have to have the Chromecast set up there prior to doing anything in the Stadia app.  Once you get into Home, follow the set up devices procedure and the *Home* app will find and set up the Chromecast so it's available to Stadia.

@BinaryJay

Actually this is not the case.

Here are the more details steps : (I run Stadia on IOS)

1 - Plugged my Chromecast (Wired)

2-  In Home set up the Chrome cast (regular chrome cast setup)

3 - Now home redirects to Stadia

4 - Link the controller to Stadia

5 - Get to the windows please add your account to your Chrome cast.

6 - Can't find any Chrome cast compatible

Troubleshooting steps :

1 - Putting it on the WiFi instead of ethernet

2 - Checked if all items were on the same subnet and reachable

3 - Factory reset the Chrome cast and did the steps stated above

4 - Checked if I could cast form my phone (Yes)

5 - Put the Chromecast on the Preview Program and then rebooted

6 - Tried to force the update : https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-update-chromecast-4628168

7 - Tried on another device to do the setup

So I'm really puzzled at the moment trying to figure out why can't Stadia see the Chromecast.

@G33krunner

You've done the same troubleshooting steps I have. I still can't get mine to work. I tried to chat with google yesterday but was 943 in the queue and by 10pm i was only 453 in the queue.

I can use my google display to tell it to play youtube videos on the CCU but when i look in the home app it shows that nothing is playing.

So quick update on the situation. I spent 1h30 on the chat with Google support to redo mostly all the steps I did but it's still not working. They will investigate and contact me soon.

At this point I would assume replacing the unit would be the answer but we'll see.

I believe I found a possible solution to your issue.  I posted at https://community.stadia.com/t5/Stadia-on-Chromecast/Linking-CCU-to-account/td-p/1381

So I let this rest for a little while as I was finishing up setting up my APs ( I was running on my ISP modem in the meantime) One I was on my Ubiquiti AP, it just started working and it does work on my ISP modem. I did try to just use Wireless to no avail prior to that.

Oh well now it works perfectly. No idea why it wasn't but I'll try to do a repro.

I was having this same problem setting up my system using an iPhone. I was able to resolve the problem by going into Settings > Stadia > Local Network > setting it to ON. It seems there is a permission required and at the time of this writing, the Stadia app did not prompt for access to Local Network. Once that setting was turned on, my CCU showed up to link.

This worked for me (casekw’s post), after setting up by wired connection, starting again via WiFi connection, and it still said no chromecast found in the stadia app... until I did this, then it worked! Thanks.
