Can't connect Stadia controllers to Chromecast

Jump to Best Response

I cannot get my Stadia controllers to connect to Chromecast on my TV. I have factory reset them and connected them to WiFi but when I enter the pairing code they just flash orange and rumble. I also tried that after rebooting the Chromecast device. What can I do?

Hi @EdShober - Sorry to hear you're having this issue.  One idea I had is to try to factory reset your Chromecast instead of just a reboot.  Here is how you do that: While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press then hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED should start to blink yellow. When the LED light turns solid white, release the button, and the Chromecast should then reset.

Hope this helps!

As I mentioned in my reply above, factory resetting the Chromecast Ultra fixed the problem. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions!

@EdShober I know you mentioned that you already tried factory reset, but just want to make sure that you're not missing any steps, here's a reference on some troubleshooting steps for Stadia controller. Perhaps you can take a look and see if there are steps you haven't tried?

Tips for recovering an unresponsive Stadia Controller

If your Stadia Controller disconnects or won't pair to your display, try the following steps before you turn it off or reset it:

  1. Use a functional charger and USB-C® cable to plug your Stadia Controller into a power source and charge it for 30 minutes.
  2. Hardware reset your Stadia Controller.
  3. With the controller off, hold down the Y button, press the Stadia button until the controller rumbles and the status light turns on.
  4. Set up your controller on your Wi-Fi network with the Stadia app on your mobile device.
  5. Turn off any Virtual Private Network (VPN) services you have enabled on your network.
  6. Go into your Wi-Fi router's settings and make sure Access Point (AP) Isolation is disabled. This is also known as "client mode" or "guest mode". For more information, check with your router's manufacturer.
    • Note: AP Isolation is often enabled on public networks in places like hospitals, hotels, student dorms, or corporate networks. This setting can prevent your Stadia Controller and Chromecast from communicating with each other. If you're on a public network, check with your network administrator for more information.
  7. Unplug your Wi-Fi router from a power outlet, then wait at least 30 seconds and plug it back in.
  8. Turn off "Airtime Fairness," "Airtime Quality," or "Multimedia Quality of Service (WMM)," settings on your router. The name of this setting varies depending on your router manufacturer.

So, I tried this suggestion after nothing else worked. It wasn't as hard as I'd thought to get the Ultra set up again. It fixed the problem! Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried most of them with no effect. I need to check my Google Nest WiFi settings although this used to work a while ago and I haven't changed anything I'm aware of. I haven't factory reset my Chromcast device either. I'll do these things and see...
