Hi. I bought a Chromecast Ultra yesterday and got it to play Stadia by launching a game from my phone. But when i tried to add my Stadia account to the CCU i got to a point where it said: "Enter the code displayed on your device". The problem is, I don't see a code neither on my Tv or on my phone and i cant go on without one.
Idk if i am doing something wrong, but i hope someone can help ![]()
I'm assuming both devices are connected to the same WiFi?
There is a Google help article in this Linky that should should help.
Hi @Tjiken
If you enter the App, click on your profile pic in the top right, the Add Account to Chromecast button should appear.
Does this help? Or can you expand if not?
That is what I am doing
I go into the app press Add account to chromecast, and then choose the CCU I am using. But then I get that message about a code. I have sent a picture showing what I mean. ![]()

That’s where the problem is when I click on add account to Chromecast it doesn’t show in the app stadiA!!!
I ran into a similar issue. I had to use the following steps to fix it:
1.) If stuck at the Registration part on the ChromeCast, reboot the device or cast YouTube or another app.
2.) Complete the Stadia controller pairing code.
3.) At the screen that launches, don't cast anything yet
4.) Open the Stadia app on your phone, and click your profile picture.
5.) Within the phone app click the add to Chromecast option.
I tried again today and it worked this time. Idk what was going on before but now it works ![]()
Thanks for the replies ![]()
I'm in the same position just a year later. Connected to same Wifi, same account on chromecast and stadia app, and followed all steps on here and on stadia's help page. My chromecast isn't showing up on the app. This has me wanting to just quit using the dang thing and go back to a console. stuck not able to use it cause of some unknown connection issue.
I can cast to the chromecast all day! But this has it stumped, even after factory reset and restarting Wifi.
@idiot Any luck since you last posted??
This is infuriating, but there's nothing less, I expected from Google. Things never work when you need them ![]()
To anyone wondering, I can't add my account to the Chromecast Ultra despite resetting my network, my Chromecast, my phone, trying from an iPad... of course, the only way to add an account is to use the otherwise useless app. Great.
Oh yeah, I can otherwise stream fine from YouTube or even start the Stadia app by connecting my controller.
Why do I even bother... ![]()
I am in the same boat. Just got the Stadia / Chromecast Ultra premium bundle and can not add the Chromecast Ultra to the stadia account. I’ve done several factory resets, wirelessly and wired, can stream all day to the Chromecast but am 100% stuck at the “add Chromecast” step. This makes playing Stadia on the Chromecast Ultra useless. I’ve checked the firmware is on the latest version “1.50.xxx” which matches Google’s Chromecast production firmware version. I don’t understand why there isn’t a manual way to add the Chromecast Ultra to Stadia without using the iOS application. I even made sure that the iOS version was up to date 14.7 I believe. Long story short, everything is updated and I am able to connect the controller to WiFi and play on any other device, just not play on my TV using the factory delivered Chromecast Ultra and factory Stadia controller which I bought last week and arrived on 7/23/2021. Soooo… don’t buy this garbage and I think it will never work OR might randomly work if I keep mucking with it for another 5 or 6 hours off and on. Plus playing Stadia wirelessly is pointless and has major delay issues when not hardwired or on any wireless connection not 20-50mbs. If anyone has a “magic” switch or button that I can press that I haven’t already pressed let me know. I’ve already done several factory Chomecast resets along with Stadia controller resets and gone through every YouTube and google support article on the web.
This same thing happened to me yesterday! I’m so frustrated! I did all the same things you’ve done and NADA, zilch, zip. I can play on my computer just fine, but not on my TV through chromecast because my stupid phone can’t find it. I talked to customer service last night and he asked, “well do you have an android device you could use?” Like I’m gonna go buy a Google phone. A**hole!! Ugh
@VioletAthena Oh and I’ve tried a 2nd iPhone and two other iPads all running the latest iOS version and nothing. It’s definitely not the phone or iPad. It’s something to do with the iOS device not detecting the Chromecast on the home network. It’s off that even though they are using the same ip subnets that they can’t see each other. Any device on my home WiFi or hardwired can see each other. You’d think two Google devices that are made to work with each other would just “work” but they do not. This is 100% your mileage will vary. Maybe this is an iOS application bug with Stadia?
@Spoon I talked to Google support and they said there is a “known problem” with adding accounts from iOS devices (translation a developer slept on the keyboard while approving a PR and the app got released with bugs). Judging how there’s no new update, I guess they are not in a hurry to fix it, so maybe next week at some point. As I said, this level of rubbish customer service is what I came to expect from Google and is why, I stopped recommending them to people.
Thanks @VioletAthena! After trying all the possible solutions found on the internet and reading your post, I concluded I would never be able to add it with my iPhone so used an Android phone to make it work. @Spoon Until the issue is fixed in the upcoming weeks or months, I guess the best thing to do is to use an Android phone.
Managed to add the add punt to chromecast by using my iPad.. go figure
