I have major audio/video sync issues with Stadia... but on the same chromecast ultra my other apps have no audio sync issues. Anyone else experiencing this?
Hello all.
Just wanted to share my update:
I have a TCL Roku TV and was having really bad audio lag playing on CCU. It was really apparent in Destiny 2. I finally fixed mine by disabling the "Volume mode" in my TV settings. The one that keeps the volume highs and lows a bit leveled. I now have no lag.
So if you have that setting on your TV or whatever sound system you're using, perhaps try turning it off.
This probably won't help most of you, but hopefully it can help at least one other person.
This is driving me insane now....Even though I was utterly convinced this is a Stadia problem, I've tried all sorts to try to find a fix for this. Swapping my ARC HDMI leads, turning off ARC and using optical cables. I've fiddled with every conceivable setting on both my TV and the soundbar. Rebooted and factory reset the chromecast... Nothing.
Nothing else connected to my TV is experiencing this issue. My Blu-ray player, PS4, Nintendo switch.. even the chromecast when streaming netflix or youtube is working fine, its ONLY Stadia that has this issue.
This is seriously making me doubt Stadia. I've been doing nothing but defend it in my personal friend circles, but this is going to be a showstopper for me. I get that this is early days but at least some form of acknowledgement from google would keep me happy. I've tagged Grace earlier in this thread, I've sent the stadia twitter account a tweet and a DM. Several others have lodged formal support requests.... nothing
@GraceFromGoogle@ChrisFromGooglePLEASE can you look into this and at least reassure us that this is being investigated?
I think they are aware. When it asks for feedback after playing a game on the CC, if I select fair it presents a list of potential issues and a/v sync is the top option. Bloody annoying though. The fact it isn’t outputting DD5.1 to my Sonos either is winding me right up. That coupled with the lack of true 4K is slowly eroding my need for a pro subscription.
My friend uses Stadia on his computer most of time. No audio sync issues. I asked him to try with the CCU. He confirms the audio lag - he hadn't noticed it before. I bet everyone has it....
Yep for sure everyone has the lag on Chromecast. It's definitely not a TV issue or an issue with the Chromecast that ships with Stadia.
Happens in both of my TVs, and both of my Chromecast. One of them is an old Ultra and one is the one that shipped with stadia. 120mb connection. I've tried both wired and wireless on both TVs. Always get Good connection on WiFi and Excellent on ethernet.
Game mode on both TVs. Doesn't matter what I do, the audio is always lagging in chromecast.
@GraceFromGoogle any chance we can get confirmation that this is a known issue?
Same issues here.
CC Ultra @ 5G WiFi with 200Mbit/s internet connection -> TV (Sony Bravia XG95 in gaming mode) -> Sony 5.1 AV receiver (STR-DH550).
Stadia says my connection is "excellent" with 4K HDR and 5.1 Sound.
No image flickering. No Input lag. 4k Resolution, 5.1 Sound. But crazy audio delay (at least 250-500ms) while playing destiny 2!
Some notes:
* The delay is still there if i disable HDR
* The delay is still there if i connect my CC via ethernet cable
* The delay is still there if i use the TV speakers (without 5.1 AV receiver)
* The delay is gone if i use a headset (via controller jack).
* The delay is gone if disable the "gaming mode" on my TV, but then i have a terrible input lag
* When i try some video/audio-sync testvideos on YouTube via my CC then everything is fine (in sync)
Any ideas?
I don't think there's any more tests to be done. Combine all the tests everyone here made already and we have exhausted everything. We need Google's help now.
I can add a little something to the issue.
My TV is connected to both my Chromecast Ultra and my gaming PC. If I play Stadia through Chrome on my gaming PC, then I get zero audio delay. If I play Stadia through the Chromecast Ultra, then I get the same massive delay as everyone else.
This rules out any settings or configuration issues on the TV or receivers. It is purely how the Chromecast Ultra processes audio and video. Since it is in sync with zero latency on my PC than the Chromecast Ultra should be able to do the same.
Update:
I Just noticed if i enable the "A/V Sync" Feature on my TV und/or AV Receiver, then the audio delay is (almost) gone. But therefore i have a massive input lag.
So now i can choose between input lag or audio delay. Yay! ![]()
It's almost as-is the CCU has intentional audio delay built-in, Google knowing most folks don't run their TV with game mode on.....
Nothing to add except for "me too". Just want to add to the count.
I also experience the same audio delay with CCU and 5.1 sound system.
Plugging the earplugs into the remote solves the problem.
I got in touch with the Stadia customer service and the operator replied that the CCU has issues with 5.1 surround and escalated this to the higher tier.
I fear the "gaming mode" of some TV manufacturers is the real problem here.
In order to avoid a delay in the input of video games, the picture is displayed much faster than in other modes of the TV. Unfortunately, the sound is not adjusted, it is still output at the "normal" time.
For example, if I play a YouTube video in "Gaming Mode", it is asynchronous, just like in Stadia. But as soon as I choose another mode, the sound matches the picture again.
Unfortunately we are dependent on the "Gaming Mode" for Stadia. ![]()
My Chromecast ultra is also connected directly to my sound bar, and I still suffer with this delay. It's also worth noting that I'm using some ridiculously expensive arc HDMI cables that the guy in the TV store roped me into buying so the feed between the TV and the sound system should have extremely good latency.
Regarding the comment about game mode, I sort of agree, I don't think it's necessarily game mode itself that is to "blame", but it must have some connection to the root cause.. Game mode simply turns off the fancy extra processing that creates input lag in the first place (not just stadia but any gaming platform). However, turning it off does sync the audio and video up, its just EVERYTHING is then horribly delayed and the input lag is horrendous, because it achieves the sync by delaying the video feed.. Having said that I tried turning on game mode whilst streaming to netflix and the audio was still in sync. For me, it's still only Stadia that has this issue.. Interestingly enough, I just happened upon a youtube review of Stadia that actually shows this issue in action, and he doesn't even realise it!

No input lag but very obvious audio delay when he fires his weapon!
EDIT: Oh and just to update that I'm STILL waiting for something back from google following my support request.
So far I've tried, tweeting the official Stadia twitter account (twice), sending a DM to the Stadia twitter account. mentioning both Grace and Chris from google in this very thread, and now talking directly to google. None of these have resulted in any form of satisfactory reply. Many would have thrown the towel in and sent the whole lot back for a refund by now, its seems the loyal customers are just being ignored.
Lack of games and lack of customer support are going to be what sinks Stadia, unless both improve really quickly.
I've had a few more email exchanges with stadia on both Twitter and over email. I've tried out a few more troubleshooting steps for them, things like updating the controller firmware etc. Still no solution but I've had fairly frequent DM's on twitter assuring me it's still being investigated (unprompted DM's I have to say).
I'll keep you guys updated if I get any tangible information to share. Once the Christmas Holidays are out of the way I'll be pushing for a solution.
