Was excited to receive my founders box. I actually forgot that I pre-ordered.
The opening was great.
The set-up was tedious just don't give up it will connect eventually
The two games given with the pro subscriber are fun.
Stadia should eventually throw in indie games and Android games I see there being a profit there.
Over all I will enjoy.
I am happy with Stadia Wolfenstein plays great along with NBA and the two bonus games.
1. The setup was a huge turn off that is a lot of work for a console that wants to make everything easier, downloading apps, connecting controllers, connecting chromecast...
It took 1 second to get it going through the browser it should be the same way setting up with the tv in my opinion.
The two games are ok if you're not already a hardcore gamer you've probably played both of these games, I don't understand why they didn't choose D2/Gylph (i think thats its name) since that is a game you can only play on STADIA, it makes more sense.
STADIA not coming with a few free indie games or indie titles in general is baffling to me but I'm assuming they are working on that.
D2 is the best experience I've had with it so far
Samurai Showdown is a fun game but shows where STADIA is at it's weakest in terms of online competitive games, way to slow.
Setup was actually pretty painless there was one hiccup where I jumped ahead when setting up the chrome cast and controller before linking it to my stadia account. This resulted in weird choppy audio, but after a reboot from the chromecast menu I was prompted to relink to stadia and now it plays great.
I know many complained about not getting their founders codes and I started out to be one of those complaining, but then I checked my spam folder.... it was there.
I have my chromecast hard wired and hooked up to a beefy internet(1gbps) and the experience is relatively flawless. I played D2 shadowkeep for 20 mins on my ps4 pro deliberately before playing the same sequences and missions on stadia, and I did see the tiniest bit of lag but once my brain adjusted I couldn’t feel it any more and the game was pretty responsive.
Graphically I did feel it looked a bit shinier than my ps4 pro. I have it running through a marantz sr8012 but running to a Sony hw40es projector so I’m locked at 1080p with no hdr when comparing. I have a 4K tv which I plan to test it on once other chromecast ultras are supported.
I really like the fact that when you buy a game you play straight away. This cannot be understated. In preparing to compare my ps4 pro Destiny 2 (D2) shadowkeep copy to stadia I had to wait for 40+mins for just the update to complete and install. With stadia you buy the game and then you immediately play the game... awesome.
If this is just the beginning and google truly plans to put the right amount of investment in this platform then I could easily see this being a strong alternative to consoles. I’d really like to see google team up with internet providers to remove data caps for stadia (I’m lucky that I do not have a data cap). I’d also like to see WiFi wireless headphones and higher than 60fps in the future (right now I still don’t see this replacing my dedicated gaming pc).
Last parting thought is if this platform takes off I’d really like to see 3rd party pro controllers like a WiFi Razer raiju for FPS games.
Good start google please continue to improve so I can one day not have a desire to build another monster PC.
I'm not even gonna lie I have it on wifi right now and still looks phenomenal
I am certainly happy with it - from a technological standpoint, it surpassed my expectations. I have been enjoying Destiny 2 and the lag has been hardly noticeable. Its there from time to time, but does not impact my enjoyment.
This evening I started to notice some significant lag issues with the stream, only to then learn 3 of my family were all streaming HD TV separatley! I think I can give a pass to Stadia for that ![]()
If I see Chrome streaming improve in quality (to match my 1440p monitor), and start seeing games I want to purchase, I will be more inclined to keep up the subscription.
I also want to see more games running at 60 fps. I know I am spoilt, as my gaming PC runs at high refresh rates - but playing games at 30 fps just isnt something I can put up with anymore. I refunded my purchase of Assassins Creed through Stadia, as - whilst it looked lovely - the 30 fps was something I just couldnt enjoy.
TLDR - Impressive, but needs to improve Chrome to at least 1440p as a priority, and ideally push for 60 fps in games, rather than 30 fps ... oh, and more games just generally, but that will come with time.
It's alright I've been playing it on my brothers tv and when I read people saying it's better then PS4 or XBOX ONE X, I kind of question if they are google employees lol. (JK) I hope they address the overheating issue @GraceFromGoogle i see they do updates on mondays so I hope to see it there. Chromecast has a design flaw for years and years and now it's becoming more of an issue with heavy gaming.
Yes it is working well with ethernet or wifi 5ghz.
We need more new games and free access in a catalog like netflix
I'm happy with it. Two games I been playing the most are Tomb Raider and Destiny 2. Both games look incredible on my 4K samsung. Slightly worse on the laptop but that's okay. My main gripes so far are:
-Heat being generated by the chromecast
-Not being able to use my Arctis 7 headset for chat and game audito (I hope this changes)
