All stadia game sound quality is crackling / distorted

Jump to Best Response

Over the course of the last week, I've noticed a significant change to the audio quality in games running on Stadia. Whereby, the audio is breaking up i.e. becoming Distorted and choppy in-game while the gameplay remains fine with no lag. Prior to last week the sound quality and gameplay have been totally fine as I have been a using the service since its release as a founder.

I first noticed this when playing Fry Cry 5. The gameplay was fine with no lag or stuttering.

Even the initial start-up Stadia sound has a crackle / distortion to it i.e. when you boot stadia up.

I've tried 4 / 5 games now and they all seem to have this sound issue. I've listed some of the games I noticed this in below.

SpongeBob

Far cry 5

Grid

Watchdogs legions

Pikuniku

Just wondering if anything has been updated recently which may have caused this, as my normal TV channels and apps i.e. Netflix, NowTV, television channels etc all work fine with no sound quality issue.

My setup is Chromecast ultra via ethernet, LG TV with LG soundbar connected via optical cable and 100 mb connection.

Troubleshooting steps I've took.

I've disconnected and rebooted my Chromecast ultra.

Turn the volume down on Chromecast ultra as this was set to full on all settings i.e. chat, gameplay etc.

But still had no luck or resolving this, just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue or if there are any other suggestions I may have missed.

Thanks in advance

Hello @FranklinSaint,

A thing you still can try is factory reset the Chromecast Ultra to see if that helps.
Do you also have audio issues if you connect your Stadia controller to a headset?

Hi @FranklinSaint, I marked @RXShorty's post as a Best Response because it provides a helpful suggestion, but just in case that suggestion does not resolve your problem, are you able to test audio on another device? If you could log in to Stadia from a desktop computer or mobile device, that would help us narrow down the possibilities. Thanks!
