4K or not 4K

Hey, i got my stadia and chromecast ultra for my 4K TV a few days ago. Now im basicly testing if im going to keep it and play cyberpunk via stadia.

I tried some games...mostly Grid, because it should be 4K. Now heres what i experience:

Its set to 4k obviously, connection is excellent (doesnt matter if wifi or lan...tested both) but if i press the stadia button to check if 4k is on...should be green like the HDR i guess.... but its grey und shows network issues. Sometimes when i check its green for a moment, sometimes its not. My connection is fine....should be fast enough etc. checking the network stats while grid is running it shows the expectet 30-40mbit usage.

Now whats going on here...ist my 50mbit connection to slow? Is the grey green 4k thingy just not very reliable? What is going on, is it 4k and just doesnt show green? Is it switching between FHD and 4K all the time?

i tried a lot but its not changing.... tryed ea.:

- Other hdmi ports (but it supports 4k 60fps)

- wifi and Lan

- searched TV for settings that might play into this...nothing

- checked bandwith, obviously but 50mbit should be fine if nothing changed with stadia

- even changed DNS server to google :face_with_tongue:

- switched setting for chromecast, 50hz, and the other gaming options...

I had the same notification on my CCU while playing The Division 2 recently, "Network Issues" under a greyed out 4K button. I have since upgraded my router which has solved the issue, however I would try the following:

  • Does this happen only on Grid? Can you try a couple of other games? I noticed that when I switched from Division 2 to Tomb Raider, that the 4K button suddenly lit up green, so it would seem that each game might have it's own network requirements to show 4K...interesting.
  • how stable is your connection speed? I noticed that my speed test results would vary from site to site, and from test to test. Try the different speed test sites listed at the bottom of this article: https://lifehacker.com/why-do-internet-speed-tests-report-different-results-1834814879 - are your results mostly similar? Or do they vary wildly?
  • Router restarts, or specifically unplugging and re-plugging the Ethernet from the Hyperoptic socket on my wall to my router solved some of the speed issues I was encountering, but only temporarily.

I don't know what router/modem setup you're using, but ultimately, my ISP-provided router wasn't up to the task of providing a solid enough wifi network for 4k on stadia, despite the raw speed being more than enough. I have recently purchased the TP-link Archer AX10 router, which has blown my old router out of the water to be honest, not a single hitch on stadia since, so if all else fails, consider a router upgrade?

So router... Is the top of the line model I got myself with newest firmware. Internet connection is totally stable here.

It seems to be the same in other games but I'm not sure which free in pro Abo games are using 4k. I didnt buy other games yet.
