The game opens, it says "checking your connection", and then it tells me that my connection is too unstable to play. I run a speed test, and it's always over 100 mbps.
I'm using my desktop computer with ethernet, not wifi. I've turned off wifi on my phone, tablet, and laptop, and it still tells me it's too unstable. I've run the speed test countless times, and it's always stable at 106-109 mbps.
For sh*ts and giggles, I decided to try it on my laptop using wi-fi, and it opens no problem, but is unplayable due to the lag, and constantly tells me that it may close, due to an unstable connection. (why does it ALMOST work with wifi, but won't work with ethernet..the stronger source...?)
I contacted Google Support, and they were of no help. Any ideas?
Try these steps
Thank you; I saw that last night and ran through it, but still no luck unfortunately.
I don't get what's going on here. Is this a common problem with Stadia?
It seems to be a little hit and miss. I play with a Chromecast ultra on my TV and the experience has been amazing, I've also played on my phone with a very smooth experience. I play on my work laptop on wifi with maybe 35-50 Mbps (not a very fast computer, btw) and occasionally I get some stutters or lag but it normally performs great. But on my high end personal laptop on the same WiFi network the lag is terrible and I can't fix it. When it works it's fantastic but when it doesn't it's frustrating. I'm fortunate enough to have had a pretty good experience across most of my devices and I know a lot of people have had the same, but I also know people having issues. Try the stadia subreddit, there tends to be more people willing to help over there. Hope you get it working, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.
Your founder of course
@shano508 Maybe it helps to lower the data usage and presentation settings in the stadia app on your mobile if you haven't done that already. And see if there is a new update from google chrome. and close all programs / apps that running in the background on your laptop or computer. and use the chrome settings inconito tho use stadia
I had the same problem, a Vpn solved the problem for me!
Which VPN do you use.
I don't know if you tried this but I had the exact issue using the Chrome browser. I had to open up some ports on my router and it fixed the issue. My firewall was causing the bottleneck with my connection to Stadia. Here is the info for the ports taken from the Stadia support page.
"If you use a firewall or VPN, make sure your rules don't restrict traffic on ports in the range 44700 - 44899 (TCP and UDP). These ports are required for playing games on Stadia. Please note that this range might change in the future."
I hope this helps.
How are you solved this in the firewall? Can you explain this in detail because i have the same problem please!
I've noticed that when setting a high resolution and not having hardware support (or having a really powerful CPU) seems to make the connection unstable. Stadia reports that I have an unstable connection and I experience considerable lag.
Solved my issues by buying a good router and setting bandwidth limitations on the devices in my house. It’s mainly bufferbloat that causes these issues. Upstream bottoenecking.
I also can’t seem to maintain a stable connection. I can stream 4K content fine but playing Destiny (even with ports forwarded) is a big no no.
Look at my solution above. Play Destiny 2 on a 100/10 connection just fine. Unplayable before.

Hmm, I already own a decent router (ASUS ROG gt-ac5300) and I use it to clearly sperate bandwidth and traffic priority - that is not the issue. I suspect its something specific to trying to play Stadia with iOS as the issue only recurs there.
It's fine on my Win 10 laptop currently. But the iPad... or iPhone... big nope
i am having the same **bleep**ing peoblem , got on lowest setting and it keeps lagging. i HATE staia . god bless xbox
