Stadia stuttering / lagging on Wifi

Jump to Best Response

Hi there,

i'm using two Windows 10 Laptops to test this.

Wifi is 5ghz; 2m distance from AP; 400mbit.

Stadia is stuttering and lagging all the time. Every 10 seconds. Unplayable.

When i plug in an ethernet cable or change to mobile network (LTE) everything runs smooth without lags or something.

I tested neighours wifi also; same outcome.

I cannot get Stadia work on wifi on my Win10 Laptops.

Any suggestions?

Found a solution.

On Windows the wifi autoconf Service causing these lag spikes. Disabling autoconfig fixes the issues immediately!

I found a tool "WLAN Optimizer", to do this:

This could very well be some form of QoS on the router. Often routers have settings called "Quality of Service" which prioritises certain types of traffic and often times it's more noticeable with WiFi.

On any router other than Google's routers, Stadia traffic is recognised not as gaming traffic, but as normal web traffic and is often deprioritised. Could you check if you have any QoS active on the router and if so, could you try turning it off entirely and testing again?

Ok, cool, so it's likely to be to do with your Wi-Fi quality based on what you've said so far, so there's a couple of other things I'd recommend checking.

If you have an Android phone, you can use a Wi-Fi analyser application (the one I have used before is this one, but there are other options) and I'd recommend checking to see if the channel you're using for your Wi-Fi is congested. If so you can change this in your router settings.

You could also check if there are sources of interference nearby to your router, this could be something like other wireless devices (such as wireless speakers) etc...

Is there Something to Change in Windows 10? Read Something about WiFi autoconfig.

Well it also could be a Windows issue or a WiFi hardware limitation.

I have a Realtek chipset in one of my laptop which causes some drops.
But my intel chipset in my other laptop works just fine.

What kind of WiFi module is in your laptop?

One thing I tried was deleting the WiFi driver in Device Manager and rebooted Windows.
After this I connected the device with a ethernet cable and let Windows update search for drivers.
Solved a problem with a other laptop this way...

Someone, somewhere at Google Stadia messed something up big - mine has been completely unplayable in my entire geographic area since Tuesday.

5 days of troubleshooting with Stadia Support and they keep saying it's now my ISPs issue - except the same thing happens on 3 different VPNs.

It's Google's problem and they, like every other tech support firm out there, won't stop blaming the client and other pieces of the chain long enough to look at their own configurations.

Using a VPN doesn't solve your ISP latency issues.

Sorry to hear you have problems but the topic starter is having a different issue.
Not sure why you are talking about Google beeing an issue as it works great for the topic starter with ethernet cable.
Looks like the topic starter has a issues with WiFi. The ISP is having no issues because it works with the ethernet cable.

@RXShorty

Youre right! Played over ethernet yesterday. 4 hours and it was perfect. No issues at all.

Notebook1 is an Intel Chipset Wifi

Notebook2 is Killer AC (dont know the chipset which dell uses in xps15)
