Stadia on Chrome, black screen

Jump to Best Response
When I try to launch a game on chrome it just doesn't show any image. I see the stadia menus and all, but the game does not get rendered on screen. Windows 8.1 Chrome build: 78.0.3904.108 (Build oficial) (64 bits) I've seen many other posts about this, some say it was regarding a popup, others regarding compat mode, others regarding ingognito or even chrome flags. I've tried them all. Incognito has same behaviour, flags are all resetted to default. Antivirus is off, extensions are shut down. Nothing. No image whatsoever.

A user on Reddit offered the tip that solved this for me. Here is the post: "I had the same issue which seems to be connected to the hardware decoding (I have an old laptop Nvidia gpu card) as going into chrome://flags and setting Hardware accelerated video decode to Disabled fixed the problem." https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/dzhbq8/samurai_shodown_is_all_just_one_black_screen/

Someone helped me with this earlier. Run it in compatibility mode for Windows 7

Try logging in from a Chrome Guest mode window. Does that work?

That basically rules out Chrome as the cause. Most likely it's your local network / your router's settings.

I am using a Powerline Adapter connected via cable to the computer and router.

I will try direct cable to the router once I find a 20meter long cable I had somewhere in the house and report back. Regardless, the powerline is giving me +80 megs of speed, IP is set to automatic, and have no firewall rules running on the router.

I will also try 2 laptops with all 4 wifi connections (poweline independent wifi in 2.4 and 5ghz lines and same for native wifi from the router)

Stadia is using some pretty fancy WebRTC + UDP connections - make sure your OS and router don't block these.

OMFG. I have a "not so old" gaming computer, AMD R9 280 card, I do have to say I kept drivers quite old. Needless to say, this actually worked. I'll try to update drivers, enable again the Hw acceleration and all, and see what is what, but hey, if it works... Thanks mate, this was **bleep**ing with me every day
