Playing via Chrome is laggy

When playing for example Borderlands 3 and Cyberpunk via Chrome or Edge the games are quite laggy with a lot of stuttering and it freezes for 0.5sec a little now and then. I do not experience the same issue when playing via the Chromecast Ultra.

The laptop used is a Lenovo L490 with i5 and 8GB ram and support vp9. Its connected via wire to the same router as the Chromecast (250mbit via fiber)

I have tried both on the laptop and by connecting it to the LG C9. I have tried 1080p 60HZ and 4k 30HZ. Tried both HDR-video setting on/off in Windows display settings, also tried the on/off for the advanced scaling setting. Tried using the browser in incognito mode.

Monitoring the performance of the computer shows 3GB of free ram and the processor max at 50%.

I dont have another computer to try with, but got any ideas what can be wrong? I just want to be able to play with keyboard and mouse...

Try using a third-party extension called "stadia enchanced" and forcing h264. Your computer might have vp9 capability but it was made for videos which can be buffered.

NOTE: the extension is not made by google or anyone affiliated with Google. The extension is made by  a community member

Hey @Abc123se

In addition to @ShadowKnight Tip you have deactivated the energy saving mode in Windows, finished Laptops like to have energy profiles that can interfere with services such as Stadia

Thank you for your replies!

I will try the Stadia enchanced addon.

The laptop is already set to max performance and I have the power cord plugged in.

Also, if you try the 720p mode and don't get the same problems then it's probably because your setup can't decode the stream in higher resolutions fast enough.

Tried 720 now and still the same problem. Also tried with the controller connected to the PC but didnt make any difference either.

Okey, you still can't count out that your computer is too slow of course, but it seems unlikely. Most machines should be able to do 720p.

So at this point you will have to keep searching for what it is on your computer that slows things down.

Is it overheating so it throttles the cpu to cool down? I had one laptop that I used a cooling platter on to keep it from being throttled. Stadia didn't play well on it without the platter.

Any virus checkers that mess things up?
