Hi all,
Apologies if this has been asked before - I've looked around but haven't found a solid answer.
Currently I'm with TalkTalk broadband in the UK getting a stable 35-38 Mbps download and around 9 Mbps upload. Stadia plays pretty smoothly at 1080p on my laptop via Chrome most of the time, but when my wife is streaming TV (Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.) downstairs I get lots of skipping, stuttering and freezing. I've tried lowering the resolution to 720p but the performance still isn't great.
Would it be worth trying to get a faster connection to solve the issue? The next option with my current provider is 67 Mbps - would that be enough for me to play Stadia and my wife to stream TV at the same time?
I've also heard that getting a better router would be helpful. I'm currently using the standard hub provided by my ISP which doesn't have options like QOS etc. Would a router upgrade be better than trying to get a faster connection?
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
Hi CaptainPanic, I was in a similar situation as yourself a few weeks back, I'm with EE fiber and my plan was 36mbs down and 10mbs up, when I was suing stadia the gameplay was a little choppy so I upgraded my fiber plan to 65mbs down and 20mbs up and now gameplay is smooth as butter also while other stream in my home, I do tend to play using my chormecast ultra that is wired to my router but I also play wirelessly using my Chromebook which is also smooth. I hope this helps you my friend.

Thanks Gareth, I really appreciate the reply!
It looks like upgrading to the faster connection should hopefully do the trick. Are you just using the standard hub provided by EE? If so I'm assuming it'll be of similar quality to the TalkTalk one I currently have. I'd rather not shell out for a new router if I can avoid it!
Currently I'm on a wired connection via power line and should be getting a Chromecast Ultra with my Cyberpunk 2077 order so will be able to give that a go too.
Hi @CaptainPanic, thanks for giving Stadia a shot and for coming here to troubleshoot!
To echo @Gareth79's insight, Stadia is a bandwidth-intensive service, so it may be the case that your connection was not able to appropriately support a smooth stream while others in the house were also using bandwidth. It's unfortunate that the solution is to upgrade to a more expensive plan with your ISP, but it sounds like that will do the trick.
Yeah I'm using the EE brightbox 2 that I've had for a few years now, but as soon as I upgraded my speed my gameplay improved a lot, it plays smooth on my Chromebook but the best experience is using the Chromecast ultra wired to my router also using the stadia controller, let me know how you get on my friend !
Thanks @Gareth79 and @ChrisFromGoogle.
Happy to report that I've upgraded to 67Mbps with TalkTalk which went live yesterday. Stadia now runs extremely smoothly even when my wife is streaming TV shows. Very chuffed!
I'm glad everything worked out for my friend
hope you enjoy smoother gameplay on stadia, it's an amazing platform ! @CaptainPanic
I'm delighted to hear that! Thanks for the update! ![]()
