PS4 controller fails on Mac/Chrome but works on iPhone/Safari

Jump to Best Response

My Sony PS4 controller is connected to my MacbookPro (M1 Pro, Monterey) via Bluetooth. It works for all non-Stadia applications I've tested. If I launch Chrome, log in to Stadia, and connect my controller, I can successfully use the controller to navigate around Stadia. If I start a game, I can successfully navigate the menus. However, once the actual gameplay starts, the controller no longer works. When I exit the game, I can no longer use the controller to navigate around Stadia. My Bluetooth menu indicates that the controller remains connected.

For example, I can successfully scroll through my library, select Dirt5, select my nickname and number, skip some of the startup videos all using the controller. Once the race starts, however, the controller no longer works. For Street Power Football and Wreckfest, I cannot even navigate the initial in-game menus. When I connect the controller to my iPhone and launch Stadia from Safari, I can play full games with the controller.

I have tried two different PS4 controllers, two different Chromium-based browsers, three different games, fully charging the controllers, hard resetting the controllers, incognito mode and regular modes, and removing and re-pairing the Bluetooth connections. Nothing has worked on my mac.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I haven't had success wiring it either, but I might chalk that up to the questionable Micro USB to USB A cable and USB A to USB C dongle I used. My computer's Bluetooth otherwise works great, including using the same controllers for OpenEmu, so I was hoping it would work here too.

Since I first posted, I've come across many other folks experience issues with Bluetooth controllers on M1 Monterey Macs on other gaming platforms as well. Not sure if that means Apple needs to issue a fix, or if the platforms need to issue a fix to address the MacOS update...

Sorry to hear about that @zzzzzzzzzzzz - sounds like you've done all the troubleshooting techniques I know.  Does the controller work in the game if it's connected via usb to your mac?
