On-Screen Keyboard

Jump to Best Response

I was playing ESO, in browser, with keyboard + mouse, and when I went to type half my screen became a virtual keyboard. I think I pressed some combination of keys to enable this, or maybe it was there when I started the game and I just didn't notice it until I opened the chat box to type. The on-screen keyboard is not functional (as I don't have a gamepad connected). It's gone when I stop typing normally. Also at one point, again I don't know how, it moved to the bottom half of my screen instead of the top.

And yes it's definitely Stadia. It's that layout and style and it's within the stream (saved in screenshots).

It's really jarring. How can I get rid of this?

EDIT: It's also happening in Humankind's textfields, where it didn't before. So yeah, it's Stadia. But I dunno if it's some weird random change or if I triggered it, I can find NO info on this.

I see the big wigs have already started looking into this, but I'd just like to ask if anyone encountering this issue has any alternative input devices or controllers plugged in to their PC/Laptop etc.

I ask, because I have a USB drawing tablet, and if I leave that plugged in when I play Stadia, it has been known to sometimes bring up the on-screen keyboard and other input related boxes. It also drives my son crazy because it loads the wrong input methods for Roblox and effects his gameplay on that. If I unplug the tablet, the issues totally disappear.

Things like this can start suddenly from such a simple thing as a browser software update or drivers etc. So just check to see what devices you have plugged in, even if you're not necessarily using them, and try unplugging them if possible, then comparing the results.

I'm having the exact same issue playing ESO. It just started today for me. I'm playing on a Chromebook, and using the built-in physical keyboard and a mouse, using the Chrome web browser.

When I try to type a message in game chat, the onscreen keyboard pops up and covers the top half of the screen, but then it disappears if I try to click on any of the keys.

Also, the forward slash key (/) is what I have set as the "player interaction" key, and I'm now unable to rezz dead players because as soon as I press and hold the forward slash, it opens the non-functional on screen keyboard.

To my understanding, the on screen keyboard is only supposed to pop up when Stadia detects that the game is being played using a controller.

Is there a workaround yet? Because this is extremely annoying!

Having the same exact issue in all my Stadia games. No clue why and no clue how to fix it. I'm using a PC with Mouse and Keyboard and anytime I try to type, the on Screen Keyboard pops up, does nothing but block half my screen. If anyone figures out a fix please let me know.

Good to hear you guys are aware of the issue, however it's been two months since this post and I'm still experiencing the same issue (although for me it's in Ark, not ESO). Any ETA for a fix?

I just encountered this in Ark as well, got a free pro trial and was thinking about keeping it or buying Ark in Stadia but this is a deal breaker if there is no workaround. Not only jarring but incredibly inefficient. I am playing on a chromebook.
