Mouse "escaping" the game screen?

It's currently almost impossible to play a highly dynamic game (Avengers, Assassin's Creed) because of the mouse cursor leaving the confines of the game screen and either not being captured by the game or popping out the "X" sign to close fullscreen when you point towards the upper limit of the screen. This has been going on for months, and, most importantly, DOES NOT HAPPEN IN EDGE. Does anyone know if there's something being done? A customer service representative today basically told me "No idea bruh, ask the forums and keep an eye on social media". For reference, I have Stadia+ installed and I'm playing on Windows 10; can't think of other modifiers for my experience. Ideas? Anyone heard anything?

Sounds really weird. I have AC Odyssey as well and never encountered that problem that you described (that the mouse cursor is leaving the game screen).

My idea is that this could either be a browser problem (Chrome in this case) or maybe also something that needs to be changed in the Chrome settings for your hardware.

For checking if the problem is caused by the hardware acceleration:

  1. Launch the Chrome browser.
  2. Navigate to Settings from vertical 3dots icon options.
  3. Scroll down in settings to open Advanced Settings.
  4. Under the System section, toggle the option ‘Use hardware acceleration when available‘.

If you have this enabled, I would try to disable it (or vice-versa) and try if that solved the problem.

If this wasn't the solution, it might be worth to investigate a deeper problem in the Chrome Browser and walk through the following steps:

  • Check that you have the most recent Chrome version.
  • Disable all extensions in the browser and check if that solves the issue.
  • Delete the cache & cookies of Chrome.
  • Check that your Chrome Browser is not blocked by any Malware (check here step 5).
  • Check your PC if there is any Malware/Virus installed that might cause issues in your browser. Try to just run an antivirus-programm to isolate this.
  • Check if you have experimental Features (Chrome flags) activated:
  1. Go to chrome://flags.
  2. Search a specific theme to your problem with the search bar and check if you can disable this feature, e.g. "enables pointer lock options" or "hardware accelerated video decode".
  3. If you can't find those, click on "reset to standard" in the top right corner to enable the standard-settings of the browser.

Thanks for the rather extensive list of suggestions ^_^ sadly, none worked. Now I discovered that I have the same problem on my Chromebook - but, not having a second monitor, the mouse "stops" at the edges and I cannot completely rotate the camera. Ideas?

I hope anyone else can help you out, because I am running out of ideas here ^^

Maybe the Stadia support has additional steps you could try, but apart from that I don't know what else can be done here.

I don't have an answer for you but I'm currently experiencing the same issue as well as a friend of mine. It started happening to us a few days ago, probably around the date when you made this post.

We both have dual monitors, I have mine in horizontal configuration. Before my mouse started to completely escape the game, I did notice that sometimes when I look up I would get the (X). Now it will completely escape the game and my cursor will go to my second monitor. I'm on Chrome Version 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) (64-bit). This does not happen while using the controller.

No definitive solution yet on my side, but I found an interim one. You can download third party programs to lock the cursor in the screen (like this: https://github.com/CyberShadow/AutoMouseLock), although they don't always work, or arrange your screens diagonally (like the last step in this page, which also reiterates some of those cursor locking programs: https://themonitormonitor.com/how-to-stop-mouse-from-going-to-second-monitor-step-by-step-guide/). Now, these are stopgap measures and I feel almost dirty for using them. We need to keep the pressure up. This is ridiculous and makes games unplayable.

Thanks for the tips but as you've already know, Edge works fine so I just use Edge to play.

The mouse response isn't great, I noticed that sometimes when I hit the edge of the screen it would jump back to the middle. Still better than accidentally clicking things on my second monitor.

To this date, I still don't know how to submit a bug report for Stadia.
