Input lag problem

Jump to Best Response

Hi, I immediately write what the problem is. When I play Stadia on Chrome on PC Doom Eternal and Destiny 2 (the only two games I can try) have input lag that doesn't allow me to play. I tried Stadia Pro months ago and I had no problems, but now with normal Stadia I have problems when setting 1080p, if instead setting 720p there seem to be no problems. The connection is an FTTC with 50mb / s in download, 18 in upload and 11-14ms of ping. I tried both in wi-fi with 5ghz and with the ethernet cable, same problem, while if I try to play with the smartphone I have no problem in wi-fi (I would therefore exclude a connection problem). It seems to be a problem related to the PC but I repeat that in the past I had no problems with the same PC. My PC is an Asus with intel i7-4510U and Windows 8.1. I have already tried some solutions found on the net, including the usual suggestions given by Google assistance, but it didn't work. If anyone can help me in any way I would appreciate it, thank you.

Maybe I have solved it, I explain the situation (maybe it can help someone). I have a laptop with dedicated Nvidia GT 820M card and integrated intel graphics card. I tried various configurations:

Hardware acceleration disabled:

- H264 codec, input lag both with integrated card and with dedicated card.

- VP9 codec, input lag both with integrated card and with dedicated card.

Hardware acceleration enabled:

H264 codec, stadia games start with a black screen both if I open chrome with integrated card and with dedicated card

VP9 codec, input lag with integrated card

VP9 codec, seems to work fine with dedicated card.

Ultimately I had to force the VP9 codec with "Stadia Enhanced", I had to activate hardware acceleration and I had to force Chrome to start with a dedicated card. That way it seems to work fine, I will be doing more tests these days anyway. Thank you all.

Hello @FrankU,

It can be caused by some plugins in Chrome.

Did you try a Chrome incognito window to see if this helps?

Hi @RXShorty

Yes, I have already tried but I have not solved.

Maybe your internet is enough to play 720p but 1080p is to much. It is strange your phone does play correctly on HD?

Are you the only one using a streaming service at the same time?

My phone play correctly on 1080p and I'm the only one using a streaming service at the same time.

As said before, I tried stadia pro in spring, same connection and same pc, and I had no problems. Unfortunately I don't have other devices to try it on now. It's really strange :sad_but_relieved_face:

Weird. I know it is the same PC, but check resource consumption.

I noticed that the cpu goes up to 99% (in fact I always felt the fan spinning strong while playing) and maybe this is the problem of the input lag (it could be a performance problem and not a connection problem), I don't know if this behavior is normal . I have also tried other browsers but I always have this input lag. What could be the reason?

Do you have hardware acceleration enabled in chrome? It looks like it's not using your GPU to decode the stream?

Also - try on MS Edge..

I tried with both hardware acceleration on and off, same problem. With MS Edge the CPU usage reaches 66-68% but I have the same problem. However, I noticed with Stadia Enhanced that the buffer jitter reaches 30-31, could this be the problem? But if it's a connection problem, why does it run good on the smartphone?

Did you try the "Stadia Enhanced" extension and force either H264 or VP9 codec (I believe that h264 is the default for 1080p though).

I don't think it's a jitter problem. Looks like sth with with decoding the stream.

Does your GPU have hardware support for decoding h264/vp9 streams?
