Improving the Chrome experience

Not so much a question but more of a tip. Playing Stadia on the Chromecast for me has been a very different experience compared to playing on the chrome browser (both wired). Although my connection is good when playing on my laptop, I still experience jitter, sudden loss of quality and latency. When playing on the Chromecast, everything works perfect. I have been testing and tweaking trying to figure out what the issue is and I seem to have fixed some of my issues. It might not work for everyone but here it goes....

-First go to your windows taskmaster, go to the networking section and then open the resource monitor. I found that there were some services/processes generating unwanted network traffic in the background. After I killed those things seem to improve.

-Second, I like my chrome extensions.... but one in particular doesn't seem to work nice with Stadia. Although I have no prove...but disabling all unnecessary plugins and especially my adblocker seem to improve my Stadia experience.

If you have any tips for improving the Stadia Chrome experience please share........

Thanks for chiming up here. I'm in a similar position. Stadia runs perfectly using Chromecast on my TV using a wired connection; It really has been fantastic!

But the experience on my laptop has been somewhat lacklustre...

I've been through all the tips I can find: resetting Chrome; reducing data usage/performance in the app; using the Stadia extension, then disabling all extensions(!) etc... I've also tried pausing all potential network hogs - Drive and Dropbox syncs, that sort of thing. But i'm experiencing the same frustrating jitter/loss of quality/latency at regular intervals of 10 secs or so. I can't see anything untoward in my Activity Monitor (I'm on a MacBook Pro Retina).

If anyone can offer more advise, please do.

I'm in the same boat. I've tried everything I can think of, but the jittering makes it unplayable. Everything works great on chromecast though.

It's exactly the same for me. On TV with ccu it works perfectly fine, but on my laptop with chrome it's so laggy that' it's unplayable. I have installed a dual boot with Linux mint and win 10 and no success on both of them. Tried various settings, clean install of chrome, other browsers but still the same on both platforms. I wish I knew what the problem is.

Glad it's not only me with this issue!

"One place for all the ways we play". Quite literally; I'm sat in front of the TV at the mo!

@Xervantes @Triss @ThorsHammer @Lokii :

Some items that I've picked up this week include:

1. Reset Chrome flags - go to the URL chrome://flags , select "Reset all to default", restart Chrome and try again.

2. Run Chrome and use an Incognito window and see if that helps, disable any extensions that might have been added.

3. Reduce refresh rate on mouse pointer (usually a feature on some mouse drivers).

4. Access Chrome flags and enable the feature "Enables pointer lock options".

5. On Windows 8 run Chrome in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

6.  Black screen on Chrome, try: Chrome flags and set Hardware accelerated video decode to Disabled.

These are some of the suggestions that I've seen that have addressed the issue for some users.  Can't hurt to give them a try and see if it resolves any of your issues.

Hope this helps.

Kudos appreciated if deserved.

YES @Mad_Dog_Bravo ! Resetting Chrome flags and enabling "pointer lock options" seems to have resolved my issues. A couple of small glitches, but certainly playable.

Would be good to know if this works for everyone else too?

Kudos deserved

The thing that finally worked for me was updating my DNS settings to point to Google’s DNS servers. (Thanks Stadia support team!)
