Help with stadia on chromebook

Jump to Best Response

So i bought a Chromebook Hp Chromebook 14 (14-DB0025NR). read about stadia online and how it has one of my favorite games, ESO on it. long story short. It pixelates randomly even though i have a strong connection through wifi.

did the speed test. and i got this.

Your connection is great.
Based on your current download speed of 45.234 Mbps, we expect you’ll have a high-performance gaming experience on Stadia.

yeah its not high performance gaming from stadia.
any help on how to fix it so it matches better.

inb4 someone says get a new system etc. Can't afford it.

Before everything else, do you have the opportunity to try playing using an ethernet cable?

Try running Chrome in guest mode without any extensions. More annoying to log into Stadia this way, but it could rule out some extension you have installed in Chrome that could be chewing up your bandwidth while playing.

It would also help to know if all games you play on Stadia exhibit pixelating or just this one.

Hi @Nasthebass, thanks for posting here about this issue. I am going to mark a couple of responses as Best Responses, because they are helpful in the troubleshooting process. Give those suggestions a try if you are able.

One other thing I would suggest is to find a tool online to analyze the stability of your connection. What is more important than the speed of your connection is the stability, meaning that even if you have a 1000mb/s connection, if you are dropping packets or experiencing some other interruption, your stream will suffer quality degradation often. Another thing to consider is that your relative distance to the wireless access point matters a lot, as well. If your signal is weak, you will lose information and the stream will suffer.

Lastly, if you have the ability to switch your network from the 2.4GHz band to the 5GHz band, this often helps resolve some connection issues because the 5GHz band is less widely-used by other networks and devices.

Hope this helps! Let us know what you've tried and if you still need help.

Hi again @Nasthebass, I think the wifi extender is the problem. Those devices are notoriously poor for maintaining steady streams to all kinds of media, especially Stadia. If possible, please try connecting to your access point via ethernet. If not possible, try moving as close to the main wireless router as possible to minimize the amount of work your devices must do to establish a connection.

Of course was not meant to be a definitive solution, but just a way to understand if the issue is on the wifi or if we need to explore other possible causes

I use a wifi extender but i dont know if thats the problem, Since i tried stadia on my phone and it worked fine using the same wifi+extender.

im also on the 5ghz wifi.

I have read alot of people are having trouble with chromebooks, though I would think since its chromebook it be more suitable for stadia
