Controller on Chromebook

Jump to Best Response
Does anybody know why I can't use any controller with Stadia using Chrome on my Chromebook? I've tried my Dual Shock 4 and Stadia controller (both connected using a USB cable) but I don't have the button to launch Destiny 2 and when I click on the controller icon it says connect a controller. When I hit the Stadia (or the PS) button it opens the user dropdown so I know they are connected and I can also play native Chromebook games with them just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Ivan thanks for you help. I have figured out the issue. It has to do with a Chrome extension I am using. I'm not sure which one yet but when I tried it in incognito mode, it works fine. Here is a screenshot in case it helps anyone else. Again thanks for the help!

Edit: The culprit was an extension called AutoPlayStopper

@kingzfn Which version is your Chromebook? Also what's the model? Can you check if there's an update with your Chromebook, if yes, try updating it until there's no more update.

Hi Ivan. It is a HP Chromebook - 14-ca053cl. I just installed the latest update but still the same issue. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Your Chromebook is up to date
Version 78.0.3904.106 (Official Build) (64-bit)

@kingzfn Hmm that's the same version I have I think.

I don't have my Chromebook with me so I can't try it out right now, but I do remember experiencing something like this when testing Project Stream. Can you try and see if you're able to use your DS4 through bluetooth? I remember I was able to get to work before.

But yeah, even if the Stadia controller doesn't work, that's not right. I'll do some more digging.

Thanks for the suggestions @Ivan  I tried connecting my DS4 via bluetooth and it does the same thing, I can't launch any games and hitting the PS button brings up the friends menu.

@kingzfn So at least the controller is responding to something. That's a good sign. How were you trying to launch the game? Were you using the mouse to launch the game, and it didn't work? What error does it say?

@Ivan There is no error, it just doesn't have the option to launch the game (play button). I assumed this was because it isn't detecting the controller but I found when I tried it on my GF's Windows laptop, the play button is there even without a connecting a controller. So it must be a problem with the Chromebook, I guess it is not compatible or something.

@kingzfn Ok so it's not really a controller issue. What is the version on your Chrome browser and Chromebook? I had issue launching games from Chromebook yesterday, it turns out I had to update to the latest version first. Can you try that and see if it works? If not, can you post a screenshot of the screen when you're trying to launch a game?

Edit: nvm I saw you already posted your Chromebook version.

I also would like to know the answer. I have a ASUS Chromebook with latest updates installed and Chrome is up to date but I can't seem to get the controller to work with stadia.
