76.0.3809.136 (Official Build) (64-bit)
When I click on more there is no option to update.
Hmm, the requirements only indicate "a recent version of Chrome". 76 isn't the latest, but I'd consider it to be recent.
What Chromebook do you have?
Its an old HP chromebook bought years ago from PC World in the UK
@Rico you might want to check here to make sure your Chromebook has received its last update:
https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366
You can also check here to confirm the latest version being offered for your particular device:
https://cros-updates-serving.appspot.com/
Based on @Ivan's experience it does sound like "recent" really means "latest".
@Davegeee Yeah, that's unfortunate, but I wouldn't really expect Stadia to work on a Chromebook which no longer gets updates. You might want to consider converting at least one of them to run Cloudready so that it can still get browser updates:
https://www.ifixit.com/News/how-to-get-updates-on-your-end-of-life-chromebook
(I can't necessarily guarantee that Cloudready will fix being unable to play Stadia, but it seems worth a shot!)
@Rico just curious, at which step did you encounter this issue? Do you think you can share a screenshot? I just tried it on my Chromebook and it works just fine, but my Chromebook is only a few years old.
Edit: I stand corrected, it's also asking me to update my Chrome browser when I tried to launch a game, even though I'm at the latest. Hmmm.
@Rico Ok apparently I have a pending update on my Chromebook.
From Chrome browser, can you go to Help > About Chrome OS >then you should see if there's a pending update. It was asking me to restart, and then go back to the same page, and click on 'Check for updates'. Mine's currently updating right now (so slow..) Will let you know if it works after this.
Nope I click on the check for update button and I get this
@Rico ah ok sorry just saw your latest reply. I wonder if your Chromebook can't be updated to the latest version. Wha's the exact model of your Chromebook? How old is it?
@ChrisFromGoogle When you get a chance, do you think you can help assist with regards to this issue? Is there a minimum requirement for Chrome OS version to run Stadia? The help center article only says to update to latest version.
@Rico Ok it works now. Make sure you keep updating your Chromebook until there's no more update (keep repeating the steps I described above)
My version:
78.0.3904.106 (Official Build) (64-bit)
See if you can get your Chromebook updated to this version and you should be able to launch games.
@Ivan What do I do if it still says that?
It says the same for me. Stadia please fix this!
Hello @SQUIRRELSROCK,
This is a older topic (2019) so not sure how this is related to each other.
What kind of Chromebook do you use and which version of Chrome are you running?
I am having the same issue. I just signed up for Stadia, which works fine, but when I go to play a game, the prompt suggests updating Chrome, but when I go to update it, it says I have the latest version. I have just discovered something (that I'm new to, I'm sure it's not a 'discovery') that when you enter Chrome:// flags you can change certain settings without rooting or going into dev mode (I have not tried it), but they also offer Chrome Beta. But it seems like they'd offer Stadia games only with the latest stable build? On the other hand, the Chrome OS is a lil different than the Android Google Play version of Chrome, so I guess I'm going to try opening a game on Chrome on Stadia on my phone, which is pointless and I don't want to play Stadia games on my phone, but it might open there, just so I can at least see if it works. I would not suggest to anyone to start changing into dev mode or dl'ing beta unless you're actually a developer?
Yup, games open on the latest stable updated Chrome on Android 11 on Google Play, but not on Chrome OS with Chrome 76. Unfortunately for me, my controllers are not made to work with my phone, even though I can use an adapter for USB Type C to USB A, for the wired logitech or the wireless USB dongle one. I guess I could buy an XBOX controller and try that, but I'm prolly gonna try opening Stadia on my Android TV Box first instead, only that is only Android 9, don't know if it will work.
Hi @SharkDood,
Thank you for your response and I'm sorry that you are having this issue. I did want to highlight that this is an old conversation as such, you may not get much visibility. We'll be closing this conversation and would recommend you create a new post. We look forward to helping you if you do reach back out.
Thank you,
James
