All Games crash immediately / black screen

Jump to Best Response

I just got the three months trial and wanted to check it out, but it seems I have some sort of an issue.

Every time I try to start up any game, right after "Checking your connection" I get a black screen that almost looks like it is about to load a game but after about 30 seconds it crashes and I get no error message beside asking me "How was your gaming session?"

At first I thought it was VPN issue since I am using one (ExpressVPN) but I saw others here with the same VPN and no issues.

I tried what seems to be every solution I could find, different browsers, computers, chrone flags, HW acceleration, compatability mode*,connected directly to the router etc. Anyone got any ideas? Anyone had this happen?

Also tried it on my phone and it seems to does work here when I use the apk, but not on my mobile browser, this is really strange... and I really rather use a computer.

*I am not sure compatability mode actually was on, it seems to glitch on my main computer, but I doubt it is related because I tried on other browsesers and computers on the same network.
**Tried Stadia Enhanced too, removing firewall, antivirus, all extensions, etc.

I was able to somewhat fix it, it still require some tinkering and see what works for you

Change in this menu:

On express VPN  -> Options -> Protocol -> OpenVpN (UDP)

Notice that I had other options sometimes work, but this one seems to work best for me.

Also notice you need to restart the app every time you change to actually see if it works, at least for me.

Hey @Dark_Avenger

do you happen to use Kaspersky as an antivirus program?

If so please uninstall it, restart your PC and try again

@Dark_Avenger is there any reason you're using VPN? I'd advised against using VPN to connect to Stadia.

Also, below you can check some troubleshooting tips and see if any can help if your case

https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/9595943?hl=en

As a start, I would try disabling VPN, updating your Chrome browser , Stadia app to the latest version, and try it again. Make sure to disable extensions as well (non Stadia extension as well... Or use Incognito browser)

Hello @Dark_Avenger,

I noticed you tried all the suggestions that @Ivan and @defischerrockt made without luck.

Just to verify, you are able to game on the same network with your mobile using the Stadia app correct?

So you also tested Stadia with multiple laptops or computers on your own network with all giving the same result?

If so it looks like your home network is causing issues. Did you try a wired connection to rule out it is a WiFi issue?

Loads of questions but we want you to enjoy Stadia as much as we do. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::thumbs_up:

@Dark_Avenger is there any reason you're using VPN? Which country are you using Stadia from?

Using VPN is just adding another layer of network that may add latency and network instability. Can you please try using Stadia without VPN?

SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM....

every game crashing... every platform.... 4 days straight...wtf?

All my games are crashing on every device, Chromecast ultra, Chromecast ultra founders edition,  Pixel 4a 5G, chrome browser. Tried different games, different controllers,  every game crashes about 1 minute in.  What is going on? I have been searching the internet for days and seems no one else is having this problem.  Frustrated.  More info: wifi is perfect and have tried different access points with equally as good 200+ mb d/l speed.

Your network connection should be irrelevant as far as games crashing goes.  Even if you disconnect/completely shut everything down without cleanly exiting the game on your end the game continues to run on the servers for a time giving you a chance to reconnect.

By crashing, I assume you mean you're getting the message about there being a "glitch" in Stadia?  Or do you mean something else is going on?

Let me describe it in detail:

1. I launch any game at Stadia homepage.

2. I get full screen logo of the game with "checking your connection".

3. It finishes checking and goes to a black screen seemingly to go into the actual game, but it stays there for about 30 seconds.

4. It automatically exists the Black screen  back to the Stadia homepage, sometimes I get the "Rate the quality of your session".

It sounds like it could be your PC/network is closing the connection for some reason.  That sounds like the normal flow of what happens when you exit Stadia by choice on the client end.  I'd expect if the issue was on the other side you'd get an error prompt, not to be asked about your streaming experience.

Have you tried the advice above about trying with an Incognito tab, disabling any antivirus/malware you might have running that could be doing some kind of aggressive filtering of your traffic?  Use another device to see if it's a machine specific issue?

People please read my previous messages.

As states before I tried running on different devices, browsers, disabled everything I could (extensions, firewalls, anti-virus, etc)  and as of today on a different network in another location, and even on a mobile device which did not work unless I used the actual app which worked.

So it could be the VPN having some conflict although it is a high end VPN that suppose to be compatible with Stadia, Or it is something on Stadia end.

Sadly atm I cannot attempt with out a VPN, but next week will try on a whole new network with fiber optic cables and 1000 Mbps speeds, and perhaps on another high end VPN meant for Stadia.

If you've had the same issue across multiple platforms it is for sure network related.  If it's network related, your VPN provider is the prime suspect.

You'll only know for sure once you can test it without tunnelling.

I have same problem / issue. I'm only able to play with the phone app. Chrome, edge, firefox and Safari on IPad have the same problem as you do.

Did you manage to fix it?
