Acer chromebook R13 seems not to be compatible with the Stadia program

Jump to Best Response

I ran a test on all different devices to run Stadia on. All those devices performed medium to excellent. Except the Acer R13 chromebook with a Mediatek GPU chipcore inside. To exclude the cliche answeres first. It's not your internet, which are causing the problems. It's the GPU from the chipcore itself. It simply isn't compatible with the Stadia brouwser. I tested all the presumed fixes on it too. None of them work as well. You can run any streaming service on the Acer R13 instead perfectly. They all work excellent on the Acer chromebook R13. Gamepass Xcloud app streaming included. It's outrages that the Google company still lies to people and claims that any device is capable of running Stadia on it. That your internet is the causing the problems. Which clearly isn't the case on this particular issue. They are simply lying about it for 2 years until now. Which isn't ok. Because they are selling a product, which doesn't deliver the promises. Now my question is this... is the dev team even considering to make the Stadia service compatible on any Mediatek chip device? An answere would be appreciated. Preferably from a Stadia employee himself/herself. Nevertheless I experienced some ignorance amongst most of them as well, because even the help support has no straight solution to this issue. Thx in advance.

I have the Acer R13 and I had the same Problem. I can tell you it's definitely a VP9 codec problem. Try to force H264 then it will work fine. I just got mine working.

I used extensions like stadia enhanced to achieve that but I also enabled the "Override software rendering list" Flag. I am not entirely sure which of these did the trick, but I am always running in H264 now and there are no issues. I wish Google would just default to H264 in such cases..

@Silly0wl I'm not sure how the Mediatek MT8183 in my Lenovo Chromebook Duet compares to the MT8173 in your R13, but I've not experienced any performance issues while playing Stadia. In fact, my Mediatek-powered Chromebook has become my preferred gaming platform.

Have you tested using your Chromebook as a guest user to see if that might have any impact on your Stadia performance? That would help to rule out a number of potential software problems.
