Stadia does not allow me to set the performance tier to 4k despite having a pro subscription and playing on a PC that supports VP9 decoding and reports a 4k resolution in the OS and through the browser.
I've checked chrome://gpu and see vp9 decode support.
I've used websites that display your current resolution that show 2160p.
Not sure what to do at this point.
Hey Stan,
sorry to hear you're unable to set 4K in your Performance options, let's quickly check the requirements again:
Hope this helps!
I have the same problem with my HP S270n display. I have 2 monitors connected (1 HP S270n in 4K resolution with Displayport & 1 1080p resolution monitor with HDMI).
But it says that 4K is not supported by my hardware...
Any idea why?
Do a "chrome://gpu" analysis, check for VP9 enabled type messages. If you have an older chipset you might get something dreaded like : "VP9 decoding is too slow on Intel Broadwell, Skylake, and CherryTrail: 616318
Applied Workarounds: disable_accelerated_vp9_decode"
That's my unfortunate situation. Try Microsoft's Chromium based browser the Edge. It cleared up a bunch of deal killers for me. And open up its ability to use the chrome web store get the "Stadia Enhanced" extension. That one can restore your ability to play in 4K.
You're welcome.
Robert
I can play in 4k on my chromecast, both are on wired connections and my down is 480mbps.
My monitor is connected via displayport 1.2. It's a 4k SEIKI pro 40". I've used this monitor to play in 4k on my chromebook as well using HDMI 2.0. It's the only monitor I have connected at this time.
Hey Stan,
thank you for confirming those requirements. From those I get the feeling this might not be the issue, even though it's weird that you're still unable to choose 4K in the Stadia settings.
Can you try one thing to isolate the issue a bit further: If you try running Stadia in an incognito window of Chrome, does this solve the issue for you?
If this solves the issue for you, it's most likely one of your extensions installed in the Chrome Browser who avoid you setting the 4K setting in Stadia. In that case, you need to disable them and activate them again one by one to find out which one is causing the issue.
If this still doesn't help, here are some more Chrome Browser steps you could try:
If this is also unsuccessful, I recommend to try and contact the Stadia team, maybe they have further Troubleshooting steps or specific ideas on how to solve this issue for you.
Hello,
for me help only incognito window
Incognito mode worked for me as well.
I managed to make it work without incognito by clearing the site data for stadia.google.com:
Now reload the page and sign in!
Did you solve this, @Stan ? I have pro subscription too and my PC refuses to let me select 4k. Overlay confirms 1440p max resolution when playing.
This is a stupid but needed reply.. Make sure you changed your Stadia settings to support 4k once you upgraded your monitor and/or video card. Mine was still set at max 1080, which is how I ended up here before figuring out my mistake ![]()
You can also use Stadia Enhanced chrome addon. It can force higher resolutions.
The stadia built in resolution detection is somewhat disfunctional unfortunately.
