4K is not working, but it should?!

4K is not working in Chrome and I don't know why. It works fine with Chromecast ultra and with Stadia+ extension on the same display. But if this extension won't work anymore at one day, I would have a problem. So what can I do to run Stadia in 4K without Stadia+?

My setupt:

1) 1000 mbit/sec LAN connection, getting "excellent" connection in Stadia.

2) Stadia pro is active

3) 4K desktop display

4) VP9 decoding is supported

5) Windows 10

What I've already tried:

1) Inkognito Mode

2) Using Chrome canary

3) Adding google proxy servers to router settings

4) Changing priority settings in router settings to highest

5) Changing dpi settings for windows/ display scaling to 100% instead of 150%

6) updating all drivers

7) reinstalling Chrome

Any ideas how to fix this?

In my case, even with Stadia+ it isn't working. I have a different setup though. I use it on a Chrome on a Mac. The system is capable of software decoding 4k@60fps  VP9 without dropped frames. This used to work until a few days ago.

Thats not my issue, but maybe I can help your with yours:

My Stadia+ stopped working because of my second display. So if you have two displays try to disconnect the non 4K display (put out the HDMI cable).

Another way to solve (if you have two displays) I found on reddit:

You just simply need to open the chrome window on the 4K monitor. An easy way to do that is just have one single Chrome window and drag it to the 4K screen, and while it's not maximized (this is important, windows is weird) just a smaller size, close that window.

If that was your last Chrome window, you can reopen Chrome and it should open where you closed it. Now that it opened on the 4K screen the first time, Stadia should be able to detect 4K and serve you 4K stream. The chrome window have to be maximized then to run 4K

Dig into #4.

Make sure that the specs list your video card model as having 'hardware vp9 decoding support'.

My first thought is that you don't actually have hardware based decoding. In my case, that was what I ran into. I had software decoding as my GPU at the time (AMD RX480) didn't support it. I could force it with the stadia+ extension, and make it run. But I've since swapped the GPU for one that has it.

thanks for your answer. I've got a Geforce 1080. When I check chrome://gpu/  , then there ist vp9 decoding listet. So I think that is not the problem for me.

So thats a part of my Information from: chrome://gpu/. I can't post the full report, because it is to long for one post.

I see some Problems under "Problems detected", maybe there is the solution in it?

What graphic card is in your pc? vp9 and 4k works only when your graphic card can handle vp9 hardware encoding so you need a gtx 960 from the second generation or higher for av1 you need a rtx 30 series card open chrome and open chrome://gpu

But dude there are only 4 games running really in 4k so its a waste of time on geforce now is 1080p looking the same like the fake 4k on stadia and for the record stadia is with 10.7 TF  still more powerful than a ps5 with 10.28 TF but the ps5 is running in native 4k and on stadia all games look like **bleep** and when you cancel your stadia pro and wanna play in 1080p it looks like 720p the complete stadia sercice is a lie nothing they promise is getting true and btw upscaled 4k isn't 4k if you don't get this in your head your are not a gamer stadia is for poor mofos who have no money for good hardware and when you see the empty servers a lot of people woke up already and when ps5 and the rtx 30 cards are available again stadia will be dead a real gamer will never accept this cheap quality on stadia
