connection issues

anyone else pay for high-speed internet yet can't get a decent connection to stadia???

Who else thinks they need to add a storage device so we can play our games we bought when we are away from the internet?

Hello Juxpitos,

Stadia needs a stable internet connection to function proper.
On what device are you playing and are using WiFi (2.4 or 5 GHz) or a ethernet cable?

Adding storage will not work with Stadia.
The reason you can play all these games on Chromecast Ultra or in your Chrome browser is because all the power that is needed (CPU,Memory,Storage,Graphic card etc) are in the Datacenters of Google.
So even if you have to possibilty to save the game on a storage device you don't have to hardware to run it.
This is by design with cloud gaming. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have 100MB service, have connected the CCU through 5g and ethernet, both have the same issues. I can steam to my CCU and not see any lag. And if they designed it for cloud gaming they should have looked at the state of the cloud and consumer internet connections, I don't know about Google fiber as it's not available in my area, but every available IP in my area will charge you for a 100MB connection, but you will share that 100MB connection with 30+ other households. I have no doubt it runs like a champ at Google HQ, but they didn't put much into testing it in the real world.

Stadia does show when you are having network issues that streaming movies and songs will not show due to being able to buffer content

Honestly, if I hadn't gotten it for free as a youtube premium member I'd be returning it, its like the oauo or whatever that android apk system was that failed horribly. Google didn't do much research at all as far as I can tell.

If my connection was as bad as stadia believes it is my streaming would be effected, but I don't see any buffering through streaming straight to my tv, or through the CCu, only playing games on stadia is effected. It's funny how I don't see lag in any of the online games I play on xbox or PC, but stadia can't get a solid connection. Maybe they should add something to the extent of, "Only works on T3 or better connections". I could understand the connection issue if I was at my.moms where they can only get 1.5Mb internet, but I pay for 100MB internet and can't play the games I bought... So I bought games for nothing essentially.

If my stadia account wasn't connected to my Google account, I'd just sell my entire account and make some of my lost money back, but as it sits, even selling the stadia controller and CCU, at new prices I'd be out over $100... Good job google!

Well you are comparing things that are not really comparable.

A Netflix or Youtube stream is able to download the stream in advance so it has some buffer if the internet is not as good as it should be.

Stadia on the other hand needs realtime streaming and has no buffer ability.
It needs the realtime part to react on the controls and the things you do within the game.

And then again it could be that your internet provider is fast enough to handle this but your home network isn't.
That's why the best way to test things is using a ethernet cable to narrow some things down.

@Juxpitos Can you test your network using Stadia's speed test and let us know how it does?

It doesn't really matter what peak speed you're paying your provider for, we need to know how it's actually performing.

@codespliceit tested at 29Mbps, says it's good enough for high def, but not 4k. I'm fine not getting 4k, but I'm not even getting 480p, I'd just like to be able to play the games I bought.

That should do for 720p and HD.

I noticed you already posted that you used a ethernet cable.
Are you the only one using a streaming service at home at that time?

The only things wired in are the CCU, my tv and my xbox one x, it's a gaming router so it's not losing bandwidth. And I've tried removing everything from the network beside the CCU and turning off wifi, and I still can't play a game.

Thanks for the information. :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:
One of the last things you could try (if you are up for it) is trying to change the DNS to the Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) ones on your Router.
But if you are not able to do it I am out of options.
Looks like you are not having a stable enough internet connection from your ISP.
You are getting 27 of the 100 you should get...

Maybe @codesplice has some ideas?

@Juxpitos 29 Mbps should be enough for Stadia... but the fact that you're getting less than a third of what you're paying for is a bit worrying. Slower speeds aside, that could indicate some other problem with your connection - which could certainly interfere with Stadia.

I like using that Google speed test as a starting point since it's (1) the one recommended by the Stadia help documents and (2) should be testing your connection to Google's servers rather than some other place on the internet. It doesn't provide a whole lot of information, though, so you might also want to test with https://speed.cloudflare.com/ since it provides additional metrics (particularly latency and jitter). High values for either latency or jitter would have a negative impact on your Stadia experience, even with higher download speeds.

If I were you, though, I'd reach out to your ISP to see if they can help you troubleshoot your internet connection a bit better.

well, that didn't help at all, if anything made it worse. Anyone want a stadia controller and chromecast ultra, only $100... (It's a rip-off, don't buy it)

Sorry to hear it doesn't work for you.

It's not fair to say it is a ripoff, there are lots of people that are enjoying it.

Sad part is that your internet connection isn't capable of playing Stadia yet.

But who knows in the future. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Curious, have you tried playing on your phone or a pc? Or just on ccu? I'd also like to mention that it's strange to call Stadia controller and ccu a rip off while you're getting less than 1/3 of the internet speed you're paying for.

@Babaganuche7I call it a rip off because in the Google speed test it said my connection was good enough to play in hidef, just not 4k, but I can't play at all, I start a game, it says the connection. Is strong, get past the main menu of the game and my connection drops... It's funny because no other devices in the house have an issue, just stadia. Do t use chrome as a browser so can't play on PC and you couldn't pay me enough to try and play far cry or star wars on a tiny phone screen. But if you want to wreck your eyes looking for tiny detail, go for it.

I am afraid your internet connection is not capable of playing Stadia.

It also has pretty high latency with 23.5.

Quite sure you are looking at the upload speed, it says the dl was 31Mbps. And when I said my speed was 29Mbps you said that was fine @RXShorty

No I am looking the latency value on your screenshot. :slightly_smiling_face:

Latency is best when it is low, like 12ms.

Yours is 20+ ms.

To get things working well you have to contact your ISP.

Honestly, I don’t think you are right that 23 milliseconds latency will be an issue for the user...that will be barely noticeable to most people and is perfectly playable. Stadia wouldn’t work for nearly everyone of not!

Try using this source to troubleshoot your problem:

Well if you want the best connection a -20ms is ideal.

But everything combined:

  • 31 Mbps instead of a 100 Mbps
  • Rather high latency
  • Tried connection with a ethernet cable directly

Let me believe the ISP internet is not ideal for cloud gaming.

I've just given up on stadia. Maybe when they have Google fiber available everywhere and I have access to their IP, it might work, but as it sits, it's a bad joke.

I understand your frustrations.

Sorry we cannot be much more of a help.
The only thing I could recommend you do is trying to contact your ISP to get the speeds your are paying for.

Maybe a future upgrade will fix things so you are able to play Stadia or any other cloud gaming platform for that matter. :slightly_smiling_face:
