Stadia players, you may already have seen the message shared on Google’s main blog. This is a short recap of the most important information for players from the main post:
As we begin the work of processing refunds to customers, Stadia customer service agents will not be able to provide more information to you at this time. For information and updates, please review the information on our Help Center, which will include new information as it becomes available. We’ll also contact players directly via email shortly with more information.
We want to thank you for taking this journey with us: in particular, the Founders and fans who have been with us from the beginning. The Stadia team poured the same passion for games into our work building and supporting Stadia as you have shown us each day in your play.
Such a shame. Last time I'm a contributor to a Google service freely. ![]()
Agree, I will be sceptical from now on too with any Google service that costs money ![]()
At least we had a nice time on Stadia until the end.
You do realize that stadia's failure mainly was due to extreme and mostly unfair biased by major influencers with an abundance of subs making their reach and impact on people choices vast. Stadia (IMO) offered and provided a service built on a platform that was unparalleled in terms of stability and capability. If my memory serves me correctly, the majority of the complaints with stadia other than its rocky start which by the way HAPPENS and has happened to nearly every game manufactory meaning Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc. who also made lots of mistakes that people complained about however, when Sony, Microsoft and especially Nintendo got their respective start in this arena, fortunately didn't have social media and a bunch of spoiled rotten streamers and bots intentionally loving spending every second bashing said companies for making mistakes no matter how big or small to millions of potential and would be buyers of said products. Now I know exactly what a lot of people are thinking, "if said streamer, blogger etc., hadn't have spoken up I would have bought into that headache and wasted money and time on said products" I would respond in kind by saying, "valid point of course however imagine a world without Nintendo that likely influenced Sony to develop PlayStation that had a major role in those who created Xbox and so on. It undoubtedly blows when things malfunction and or just doesn't work as marketed or promised however when investing in consoles, phones, Pcs etc. for one always always always make room in your budget for extended warranties or added insurance especially when spending the kind of money, it takes for these machines and second if you do indeed happen to buy a defective unit, try and remember that just as you are intitled to mistakes and you will make and continue to make them so that entitlement that you enjoy also by all fairness extends to everyone else. Remember, there's a human being behind every console and game in existence. In closing, I find it disheartening to say the least to see Stadia have to kick the bucket on something that worked and could have continued to evolve had it gotten the support it truly deserved from a community that wouldn't be where they are right now without the many mistakes made by those before them.
**bleep**, I really hope I don't lose my progress in Destiny 2!!
@Perrtuk make sure you have Cross Save setup https://www.bungie.net/7/en/CrossSave - you'll have to rebuy any expansion packs on other platforms.
rip
Seen this coming for so long. I did a post a long time ago saying if we did not get the big games this would happen. All i got was hate from the fanboys so i left stadia for a gaming pc now i see this so all i got to say is TOLD YOU.
same here. it was predictable. the biggest flaw was the subscription model. Why even have one if subscribing isn't incentivized over just buying games in some meaningful way.
The free pro games each month, and the additional quality settings were meant to be the incentivisation.
What probably stopped it being AAA games or access to meaningful games, were the games companies.
Look at what happened to GeForce Now - it had access to the full Steam library, and then it was launched and games companies said "hold on, no you don't, remove it now".
Hi, I would like to know how can i get a refund for all my games since GStadia will be closing soon.
Hi @deiv599 Please take a look at the FAQ below for refund details
https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/12790109
Q: Will I get a refund? What is available for a refund?
A: We will be offering refunds for all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made through the Google Store and software transactions (games and add-on purchases) through the Stadia store. Stadia Pro subscriptions are not eligible for refund, however you will be able to continue playing your games in Pro without further charges until the final wind down date.
Q: Do I have to return my hardware to get a refund?
A: Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made directly from Google will not need to be returned. More details on how to obtain a refund for your Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks.
Q: How/When will I get my refund?
A: We are working through this process now and will keep this article updated as we define the process for each of the countries and different situations. Our intent is to have the majority of refunds processed back to the original payment by January 18, 2023.
Thank you all for being a fantastic community. I have really enjoyed the last three years and found the Stadia technology to be awesome and a convenient way to play video games. While I am sad to see it end, I will always appreciate the team's efforts and remember my fellow Stadians and Founders with fond memories. Best to all!
Indeed. Was fun.
Not a surprise, but still a great shame. It's nice that they stuck to their word about refund.
I still have a slight bad taste in my mouth about ANOTHER service shuttered.
It was something else until it was not
Best cloud platform. Outplays the others in simplicity for my family to come together and play on TVs.
Infinity sadness
Best to all of you, it was a pleasure and Stadia brought a lot of fun while it lasted.
As Stadia is dead after January 18, 2023 (announced Sept 29, 2022) do you think we can take our save data with us?
From my understanding Cross-Play works only when the other platform still exists.. Let's hope Bungie is offering a solution.
The next question would be whether we are getting a refund for our expansions as the base game is for free.
I would definitely rather keep all expansions and saves instead of getting money back and losing everything..
Let's keep our fingers crossed and collect all information in this thread.
@Perrtuk The news is still very new to us, so definitely there's a lot of questions waiting to be answered.
For downloading save data, you can use Google Takeout to download the data - https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout we don't know if the save file can be used for other platform, but I do recall someone was successfully uploading save file to a Steam game (can't recall which game)
As for Bungie, as long as you activate crossplay you should be fine accessing from other platform. I don't see Stadia going away will impact progress on other platforms.
You can get refund on everything other than the Pro subscription, as detailed in this help article. But if you're subscribed to Pro as of today, you can get access to all Pro games until Stadia shuts down.

A: We will not be refunding Stadia Pro subscriptions. Players who held an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription entitlements during the shut-down period.
If you've enabled crossplay then you'll be fine and your 'save' is in the Bungie 'cloud' and will carry over to another platform.
Your purchases of expansion packs however, will not. You will have to re-buy them.
But everything you've unlocked with them, you'll keep.
Hi,
I have literally just bought a stadia controller with the hope of migrating to stadia instead of my expensive gaming PC and google announces that it's being turned off.....I've had it less than a month, what are my chances at a refund?
C
Standing at the official faqs all the hardware purchase will be refunded
https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/12790109
@Cronwin You may still be able to return Stadia controller according to the original term of purchase. Which country did you buy it from? In US the return period is 14 days, but maybe some country have it longer.
In any case, Stadia will be refunding all purchases except the Pro subscription. Please take a look at the following article

This is completely unfair. I bought my controller via 3rd party. That party will get a refund and I will get a piece of garbage that looks like a controller.
Does google have any means to compensate hardware bought via 3rd party because there is a LOT of it.
Trust me just get a gaming pc its war better. Just got one with a rtx 3090 ti. Freaking amazing
Just read the new newsletter about stadia being shutdown next year, i saw in it they said they will try to refund all games, dlc, exc that you've purchased on your account. My question is will it refund me of a game that ive bought years back (1-2 years prior) or does it only refund recently bought games from this year.. Thank you if you reply and have a good day. #ripstadia
Hi @Acidninja they will refund everything other than Pro subscription. Please take a look at the article below for more details
