Stadia players, you may already have seen the message shared on Google’s main blog. This is a short recap of the most important information for players from the main post:
As we begin the work of processing refunds to customers, Stadia customer service agents will not be able to provide more information to you at this time. For information and updates, please review the information on our Help Center, which will include new information as it becomes available. We’ll also contact players directly via email shortly with more information.
We want to thank you for taking this journey with us: in particular, the Founders and fans who have been with us from the beginning. The Stadia team poured the same passion for games into our work building and supporting Stadia as you have shown us each day in your play.
@Kuala From what we've known so far, all info are pointing to the fact that refund can only be made if purchases are made directly from Google Store. As for the actual implementation, we need to wait for further instructions in the email.
The Stadia team is aware on the interest of unlocking bluetooth on the controller, but no confirmation whether it will actually happen.
How can i get a refund and its unfair that i already bought it from him and he will still get the refund.
Hi @Jayehem
I am afraid there is no way this is a possibility. That's the risk of buying things second-hand.
Best is to reach out to your friend to get your money. ![]()
I hope Google understands this creates insecurity in any hopes to generate traction for future projects they may present to the world. More than likely no one will trust them and ignore their efforts to push anything else out they may have up their sleeves. Myself included will no longer be investing in any paid subscriptions Google rolls out. My heart is torn that they have left us stadians high and dry with little to any good alternatives available on the cloud gaming block. Not enabling Bluetooth capability for the controllers. Not being able to cross save most games data. Amongst other things. They could have at least sold this platform to another company. Now people, including myself who weren't reliant on consoles and pcs are left with nothing at all but grief
Yesterday Google cancelled my stadia Subscriptions. But the Cancellation Date is mid November.
Sept 29th 2022 announcement of shutdown (Jan 2023) and how we can still access our games...at no charge. My StadiaPro account was just charged 10\3 and it's still lined up to do Nov 3rd.
It shouldn't be charging me after that announcement. It better be part of the refunds coming our way. They didn't tell us to cancel Pro so we don't get charged every month (when there are zero games to buy).
Thoughts?
@SHWpyrographer Please take a look at the following FAQ fore details
https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/12790109
Q: I just got billed for my Pro subscription, when are you turning that off?
A: We're starting the process to turn off automated billing for your monthly Pro subscription which will trigger cancellation emails to current subscribers and you may still see a bill if your regular billing cycle was in the next few days. Note that all Pro subscription charges anytime on or after September 29, 2022 (midnight PST) will be refunded as our refund process continues.
Q: What email communications should I be expecting?
A: We're starting to process billing cancellations, which will trigger cancellation emails to current subscribers. This will apply to both your Pro Subscription and any third-party subscriptions (e.g. Ubisoft +). Rest assured, you will still keep your Pro entitlements through the wind-down period. Also, if you were charged anytime on or after September 29, 2022 (midnight PST), those charges will be refunded as our refund process continues.
Thanks, Ivan!
Hi!
I just want to know why are you shutting down Stadia? I may not play it all the time, but I love it? Is Google coming out with a better game system? Or is gaming over for Google? It's a great space to be in if you get the right games and have a platform with better streaming capabilities. I couldn't play in bad weather, but otherwise...it was great. I'm going to miss playing it.
@PwrSrc I think most of us, including the majority on the Stadia team was surprised with this decision, considering the day before Fifa 23 was just launched, and also a new UI was in the process of rolling out.
If you want to read the explanation from the VP himself, you can find it from the article below
https://blog.google/products/stadia/message-on-stadia-streaming-strategy/
what happens to the games I purchased through Stadia? Do I get a refun on the games I purchased?
Is it possible to transfer my saved data from Stadia to my PS4?
@DomD There are some games that have cross save, you can refer to their documention of ways to transfer the saves. Otherwise, no, unfortunately it won't be possible. Do you know which games you're thinking of transferring your save data?
my Outriders data
i just bought fifa 23 missing 10 days ago will i get my refund?
Yes you will get a refund.
Google sucks. I can't get any help. No one cares. I just get sent from place to place. Every person wants 24 to 48 hours to send an email saying they won't help. They've stolen my money. Google is evil. I am canceling all Google subscriptions, including YouTube and Fi. I'm glad Stadia is going away. It is a deserved end.
@pykus342 What kind of issue do you have, and where have you tried for getting help so far? If you can let me know the issue you're having, I can try to help.
If you're referring to get refund for Stadia related purchases, you will be contacted by email in the next few weeks/months. Please understand that the news of Stadia shutting down was so sudden, so support may not be able to do anything at the moment, as they're still trying to figure out the process. For more details you can check the following link
Q: Will I get a refund? What is available for a refund?
A: We will be offering refunds for all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made through the Google Store and software transactions (games and add-on purchases) through the Stadia store. Stadia Pro subscriptions are not eligible for refund, however you will be able to continue playing your games in Pro without further charges until the final wind down date.
Q: Do I have to return my hardware to get a refund?
A: Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made directly from Google will not need to be returned. More details on how to obtain a refund for your Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks.
Q: How/When will I get my refund?
A: We are working through this process now and will keep this article updated as we define the process for each of the countries and different situations. Our intent is to have the majority of refunds processed back to the original payment by January 18, 2023.
Q: Are you refunding my Stadia Pro subscription?
A: We will not be refunding Stadia Pro subscriptions. Players who held an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription entitlements during the shut-down period.
Q: I just got billed for my Pro subscription, when are you turning that off?
A: We're starting the process to turn off automated billing for your monthly Pro subscription which will trigger cancellation emails to current subscribers and you may still see a bill if your regular billing cycle was in the next few days. Hey, I've only seen the announcement that Stadia will be shutting down today. I've already purchased FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition, and have been playing on it for a little over a week now. I was wondering if I would still be eligible for the refund if I've already used the 4600 FIFA points inculded in ultimate edition? I can't find any answers on stadia itself as the store is closed, help would be greatly appreciated!
@Andoi Just to clarify, Stadia is not shutting down today, but next January. And yes, everything you purchased directly from Stadia and Google Store will be refunded, including your FIFA points if you purchased them through Stadia. You can play them as much as you want for now.
More details here:
https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/12790109
Thanks, this was helpful. Does this mean if I purchase FIFA points from Stadia they will be refunded even if I use them? Or only from the Ultimate Edition version of FIFA23?
@Andoi Whatever you actually purchased. And when I said refund, I meant you will be given your money back. You're not actually getting the Fifa points credited back. So if you obtained the Fifa points as part of the Ultimate bundle, you will get refund for the cost of the bundle, but NOT the Fifa points. If you purchased Fifa points separately, you will get refunded for the cost of the points. Hope that's clear.
I remember when I was first notified by Google to try stadia when it was first released. I didn't hesitate to sign up. "It's from Google," I thought to myself. I immediately bought the founders addition with chrome cast ultra. I also bought 2 more controllers for myself and my two sons.
Knowing there could be some challenges I still gave it the commitment and support Google asked for. I told my friends about it. They all seem to be interested but some, never pulled the trigger. They are all from PS5 and PC game platforms.
It may not have been the right platform for them but I enjoyed it despite the problems with connections and the input lag to sound sync problems.
I enjoyed it nonetheless. I supported it with game purchases. I enjoyed some great titles and old favorites. Most were amazing and I knew I would continue my pro subscription. I even bought 5 Google nest pods to ensure a wifinet for the house among other Google products.
The decision for Google to take down the servers does quite of bit to my mentality towards where I take my business moving forward. No longer will I ever support Google products without a second thought.
And I will most likely not recommend Google products or services to anyone. It's a shame and I'm left with remorse and regrets.
Google... you are multi-billion dollar company. Even if you were to loose millions if not dozens of or hundreds of millions, you should have kept this going.
You are now known as a company that gave up. A company image destroyed. A laughing stock among other smaller companies in the streaming game space.
You would have received more traction as time comes and you could have done a bit more marketing to make it happen but you never did.
And now you left loyal supporters like me and many others left feeling empty with regrets.
Change your perspective, don't give up and continue to support the ones who supported you by keeping the servers up and running. Don't leave people hanging with a bad company image.
You're Google. You essentially own the internet why not let this one little fraction of your entire organization live regardless of your bottom line?
Do it for the little people. Those who said no to consoles and PC games who need an alternative. You have the market place for it. Keep it going and don't look back.
Otherwise, your company image simply goes down the drain. You are now penetrable. Your services and products can't be trusted. It would be a waste to buy them.
This is what I think now of your organization. Next thing i know google drive or email can be subject to similar tragedies.
Yet my 30 year old Hotmail is still alive and Microsoft Office regardless of the version still works on my 10 year old laptop. Can the same be said about Google business suite or google drive? Because of this I'm migrating everything else to OneDrive and outlook.com for emails etc...
One example of one consumer slowly migrating away from your other services over the fall of this one.
You think this has no impact but it actually does. You started a chain reaction which will hurt more than carrying few servers to keep a novel idea as gaming without a console or other forms of equipment for the masses.
You were and still are on to something. You paved the way for people to enjoy games without the need for all the other stuff needed to enjoy them. All we needed was a controller. You done this and now you have killed a majestic thing down to an extinction for reasons nobody understands exept for the comment of not have enough traction.
It's ridiculous... you own the internet marketing space. Use it to bring light to others. Offer free controllers for pro subscribers. Do something instead of simply just giving up.
I'm disappointed in you. You could have revolutionized a new era of gaming and you are bringing it down to let others companies leave you in the dust forgotten.
I hope things will change but ending in January of 2023 does not seem like the right answer. The risk of damage to other Google related services would be unimaginable in my opinion regardless of how insignificant it may seem to your executives.
How sad this all is for your soon to be disloyal supporters.
since stadia will close, will i receive my fifa 23 refund ??
I am contacting stadia because I heard stadia was leaving and our money was going to be refunded. I lost my house in a fire about 2 days ago and It would be a blessing if I could get the refunds as soon as possible I know it says most refunds would be done by January and I really could use it now to help me and my dad
Hi @Superman66,
We are so sorry to hear about your home. Hopefully you and your family are safe and hanging in there. Unfortunately, this is going to be a large and long process and the only thing we do know about it is that all refunds will attempt to be handled by January 2023. Again, so sorry about your situation and really wish we had better news.
Thank you,
James
