Stadia players, you may already have seen the message shared on Google’s main blog. This is a short recap of the most important information for players from the main post:
As we begin the work of processing refunds to customers, Stadia customer service agents will not be able to provide more information to you at this time. For information and updates, please review the information on our Help Center, which will include new information as it becomes available. We’ll also contact players directly via email shortly with more information.
We want to thank you for taking this journey with us: in particular, the Founders and fans who have been with us from the beginning. The Stadia team poured the same passion for games into our work building and supporting Stadia as you have shown us each day in your play.
What I could never understand is why so many gamers were so negative about the idea of Stadia. Maybe I’m a minority, but I can honestly say Stadia worked absolutely perfectly for me, and was so easy to just pick-up and use.
The lack of AAA games helped to kill stadia, but I think the main thing that killed it was the way so many gamers seems to want stadia to fail…
Toxic gamer life. It's the same with sports teams, now politics, etc. My way or the highway, everything else is garbage. Humanity, basically.
Why we cant get back refund for those games what i bought if i played over two hrs?! I bought them bc i taught i can play with them not 3 years much more! NOW ALL BE GONE! NOT MY FAULT GOOGLE WASNT SUCSSECS ENOUGH so why i lose all my money!????
@Smile4evil under normal circumstances you're right you can't get refund after playing games for more than 2 hours.
Today is not that day.
With Stadia shutting down, Google will refund everything other than Pro subscription. Please take a look at the article below for more details

Either way i feel screwed over..I trusted in this platform. i bought online games for and after only 3 years will be shut down by google. is a joke
Is there any way to transfer my rdr2 game to another platform? I've put on do much time and energy, it's really heartbreaking to lose everything
@gshahn no guarantee this will work for all games, but someone found a way to transfer Stadia saves to Steam version. More details below.
https://9to5google.com/2021/02/02/how-to-export-download-game-saves-stadia/
Maybe purchase the game on Steam, try if you can transfer the safe, then return the game if you can't do it (same 2 hour policy like with Stadia)
I was in shock to hear that Stadia is closing.
Stadia had the best tech, but regretfully lacked AAA titles to bring in more gamers.
Is there any chance Google form a tech partnership with Steam?
Steam is also pushing hard on linux gaming, so partnership could work.
Maybe Steam could focus on "ability to purchase and install" on individual's PC, while Google focus on streaming side (on PC, phone, tablet, and Steam Deck).
Even Google couldn't make Gaming on Linux work...
Dunno, after all this it definitely seems Google is doing their customary "working with partners" and there is the (slow) initiative to get native Steam compatibility on their Chrome operating system. The Steam deck is certainly another avenue to bring games to more than just console and PC.
Hello Everyone, Player and Dev alike -
I´ d like to know, if one could get a package of all our screenshots and clips, if someone wishes to.
Maybe neatly and conveniently zipped as a "good bye - this was your journey" package.
loading 100 of files by hand per person cannot be the right way, right?
@crtkrswrkbnch Google Takeout is your friend (unless it gets shut down before you get to it). Look under Stadia and you can download Stadia related files, including your video clips and screen captures.

With games like Riders republic, RRD 2, The Crew 2, and Assains Creed series I guess the UBIsoft monthly pay is the way to go but are the in game saves transferred if I choose another service and buy the game there? Which is the best service to use that would work like Stadia? if the controller is just to hand over to landfill waste what other controllers should one use with other streaming services? The Cromecast ultra is somewhat useless also I guess, the Google tv works on the other hand with xbox cloud? lot of questions... to bad they had to close down! Stadia was the best!
Good question, I don't know much about Luna, but just personally after what happened with Stadia I would also be concerned about any other Streaming service now. ![]()
Regarding Ubisoft I asked them via ticket as well about the save games and they replied the following:
"Unfortunately, the Assassin's Creed Odyssey progress is tied to the platform on which you are playing and can't be transferred sadly.
The progress for Assassin's Creed Valhalla however is tied to the Ubisoft account directly and can be accessed on PC as well, as long as you have uploaded it to the cloud while you have played on Stadia.
With other games like Riders republic or RRD2 and the others you mentioned I have no idea about a transfer. I'd recommend you do check with the developer if they are offering any transfer.
Hope this helps.
I would say that Geforce now is the most similar one. And it supports both k&m and controllers. Works on chromebooks, pc's, linux, android devices, ccwgtv and so on. Just be prepared for a much much worse user experience for the stuff that isn't ingame. (Website, store etc. Lots of login verification, queue times.. it's quite horrible until you get into the actual game)
The controller is still usable if you wire it up. But if you want to be wireless you'd have to get some other bluetooth controller unless google decides to unlock bluetooth on the stadia controllers before closing down (Extremely unlikely).
Most of you gaming progress is lost however. At least for any game that doesn't employ cross save like The Elder Scroll online and Destiny 2. In some cases you might be able to use google checkout and install save games on a local pc. But probably not on any streaming services.
Do we know if my Stadia Elder Scrolls character can be played if I buy the PC version of the game? I would hate to lose the last year of progress..... ![]()
Hello.
I doubt we can keep our characters. I hope all the same that we will be reimbursed for the game and the subscriptions but I imagine that it will be necessary to see with Bethesda. Maybe they will offer the possibility of transferring our characters to a pc account, otherwise they will be lost forever...
Yes don't worry.
Just log into https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/ and link your account to steam and buy the base game for PC there.
You'll still have access to all you characters and all DLC that you have bought on Stadia. Nothing will be lost.
You will be able to play on both platforms until it stops working on Stadia.
The downside is that there is no other way to play ESO streamed so once Stadia is closed you will have to start fiddling with installations and such on all devices you want to play on. And no more playing on a tv, chromebook (Until steam is ready for chromebook), table or phone.
Thank you, that makes me feel better.
I wonder if Mr Google will refund the Eso plus membership I paid through Stadia? If so I will have enough to buy me a cheap PC!
No I don't think the ESO+ will be refunded unfortunately.
This app has ultimately saved my life, I have made a post about this before but I want to stress this.
I am a combat veteran and was homeless for quite a while, when my life was on the verge of being too much and I was about to give in, I randomly found Stadia. I've been a gamer all my life (I'm 40 now) and it's always been my release and escape from reality. I had been without a console for so long I forgot what gaming was like. Then when I needed it most I came across this app. My life has been better because of this app....now it's going to just be taken away? Shuffled off and mothballed like it means nothing?
I am absolutely horrified that this can happen. I l literally am in tears. My one escape in this world is being taken away like a toy from a child. Is there a way we can set up a petition to keep Stadia going because I don't know where I'd be without it.
Please let's work together and try to come to a consensus as a community and try to keep this treasure online
I personally would pay more to keep this service online. It's not even fully shutdown and I already miss the platform as if the servers were shutdown yesterday ![]()

Edit: yes I am a Stadia Guide and i really do want the service to continue long past January 18th. I would give up being a Stadia Guide if that was the only way no questions asked.
Hello guys,
i just recieved the message that stadia is shutting down… but now I was wondering if I can still keep my ultimate team after January 18th or do I lose it all? If I can keep it do I need to play on origin then and do I need to buy fifa again?
To go further, do stadia will refund fifa coins? Buy from the stadia store?
Hij @ElProfessor
You will get a refund and you are not able to play FIFA 23 on Stadia after 18 January 2023.
I know all the games and DLC are getting refunded, but I am not sure if the FUT is under the category of DLC.
I want to refund my fifa 23 ultimate edition games that I preordered 90 euros because the platform is going to close how can I do it
Hey @mortell13300
check the faqs for more info, but your preodr will be either canceled if not yet paid, or if it was paid it will be refunded before half of January. https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/12790109?hl=it
Q: I ordered something via pre-order - will I get charged?
A: All future pre-orders will be canceled and you will not be charged. If you were already charged, you will be refunded your payment.
Dear Google Stadia Team,
I bought the Stadia Founder Edition in 2019 before the launch including :
This does not appear in Stadia but I expect to be refounded. Can you confirm and proceed to reimbursement ?
Thank you in advance,
Hey @LimoRTel,
If you have bought the Founders Edition through the Google Store, you'll get a refund:
Also be aware that the refund may take some time:
Hope this helps!
