Stadia players, you may already have seen the message shared on Google’s main blog. This is a short recap of the most important information for players from the main post:
As we begin the work of processing refunds to customers, Stadia customer service agents will not be able to provide more information to you at this time. For information and updates, please review the information on our Help Center, which will include new information as it becomes available. We’ll also contact players directly via email shortly with more information.
We want to thank you for taking this journey with us: in particular, the Founders and fans who have been with us from the beginning. The Stadia team poured the same passion for games into our work building and supporting Stadia as you have shown us each day in your play.
Hello -
I just read through the email notification on the sunset of Stadia. What is unclear is how to submit for the refund of Stadia equipment that we've purchased (controllers).
Can someone direct me to where this should be submitted so I can start the process?
Thanks,
Daniel Olayo
Hi @theolayos they will refund everything other than Pro subscription. No need to submit anything. Please take a look at the article below for more details

I had recently closed my subscription with plans to return. There was a game Monster Boy that I would love to finish that was a part of my Pro subscription. I am willing to buy this game as I was close to finishing. Is there any way I can get this game back. If not I understand. Thank You guys for a great service. I really hate it is being discontinued. Hope you guys give it another try at some point.
Thanks Stadia!!
@ERS1 Unfortunately it's no longer possible to get a new sub to Stadia Pro or buying a game, since the store transaction is closed. You may want to reconsider purchasing the game on other platforms.
Now that stadia is shutting down how will I get my money back
Hi @Jay4 they will refund everything other than Pro subscription. Please take a look at the article below for more details

Q: Will I get a refund? What is available for a refund?
A: We will be offering refunds for all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made through the Google Store and software transactions (games and add-on purchases) through the Stadia store. Stadia Pro subscriptions are not eligible for refund, however you will be able to continue playing your games in Pro without further charges until the final wind down date.
Q: Do I have to return my hardware to get a refund?
A: Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made directly from Google will not need to be returned. More details on how to obtain a refund for your Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks.
Q: How/When will I get my refund?
A: We are working through this process now and will keep this article updated as we define the process for each of the countries and different situations. Our intent is to have the majority of refunds processed back to the original payment by January 18, 2023.
Q: Are you refunding my Stadia Pro subscription?
A: We will not be refunding Stadia Pro subscriptions. Players who held an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription entitlements during the shut-down period.
I purchased cyberpunk2077 and to find out that stadia is closing down i want a refund for the game.
Read the Stadia FAQ, you will get a refund, when they get around to processing it. No shortcuts, just have to be patient.
What if I didn't buy my stadia controller through the Google store? Will I still get a refund?
I just read the announcement about Stadia shutting down ![]()
It said refunds would be available for hardware purchases. What if I purchased my controller second hand? Can I still get a refund?
@ac23 Only controllers purchased directly from Google store are eligible for refund.

@Ivan This is unfair.
The hardware was purchased through the Google store, just not by me.
There should be a way to claim a controller in order to prevent the refund from automatically going to the original purchaser.
@ac23 I don't know what else to tell you. I don't make the rules.
@Ivan You seem connected to those who do make the rules. I'm hoping my sentiments will reach the policy makers and inspire them to consider revising the refund policy (since it's still in flux) to make it more equitable.
@ac23 I actually don't. Stadia Guides are not employeed by Google. We're just regular Stadia users that happens to enjoy helping each others in the forum.
@Ivan Can you help me get a refund for my controller? ![]()

@ac23 I can help by pointing you to this article, which you somehow conveniently ignored in my first reply

@Ivan I read the FAQ before I started this thread. The absence of any info on the FAQ about refunds for used equipment is why I posted the question here.
The FAQ doesn't say that refunds won't be given for used equipment. It does say, "More details on how to obtain a refund for your Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks."
Maybe someone at Google will notice this thread and add something to the FAQ to clarify the situation for second hand equipment owners?
@ac23 Let me post the whole Q & A section of the part you quoted. I feel this should be clear enough. If you think this should be interpreted otherwise then let's wait and see for the actual instructions.

Oh @Ivan, you make me sad
I wish you would sympathize with me and all the other Stadia players who might lose money because they purchased used equipment. Ironically, I purchased my controller used in order to save money.
Also, key word in the FAQ quote: most.
@ac23 I'm sorry that you're sad. Frankly we're all sad here. Maybe I'm just numb because this is not the first time I had to go through this mess (I was a big user of Google+). Was just trying to purely form my opinion based on the information given to us.
But yeah, I have sympathy for you, for others, for myself? I don't even know anymore.
what will happen with games i purchased
i bought Cyberpunk2077 and Borderlands3
refund ?
Hi @redhempdead they will refund everything other than Pro subscription. Please take a look at the article below for more details

@SteveScotland you can reach out to whoever sold you the devices for a refund. This is just how things work in general. Chromecast will still work and the Stadia controller can still be used on other platform using cable so it's not like they're suddenly useless.
At least you're still getting refunded for the games.
We have a term in uk consumer law, “not useful for the intended purpose”, this very much falls into that category.
so I’m screwed. You ultimately benefited from the sale of this device and are leaving me with a device that is no use for the purpose it was purchased for.
your likely going to be sued for this, you do know that?
@SteveScotland well I don't work for Google so I'm pretty sure I won't get sued.
What will happen to the games I have on there? Will I have to rebuy borderlands 3 or is there a way to get the actual game off there
Hey @MrTuesday,
The games you purchased on Stadia will be refunded by Google.
This would mean in your case, if you want to continue playing Borderlands 3, you would need to purchase it on another platform and then play it there (example platforms are Steam, Xbox, Playstations, whereever the game is available).
More infos about what happens to games on Stadia you can find here:
Hope this helps!
