Stadia players, you may already have seen the message shared on Google’s main blog. This is a short recap of the most important information for players from the main post:
As we begin the work of processing refunds to customers, Stadia customer service agents will not be able to provide more information to you at this time. For information and updates, please review the information on our Help Center, which will include new information as it becomes available. We’ll also contact players directly via email shortly with more information.
We want to thank you for taking this journey with us: in particular, the Founders and fans who have been with us from the beginning. The Stadia team poured the same passion for games into our work building and supporting Stadia as you have shown us each day in your play.
The Ubisoft+ subscription is managed by Ubisoft.
So no Ubisoft+ will not be free unless you opted in for a free period in advance. Also be sure to cancel Ubisoft+ at their website just to be sure.
Thanks for that info!
Now that Stadia closes, will games be automatically refunded or will I have to request a refund?
Hi @ANDROMEDA they will refund everything other than Pro subscription. Please take a look at the article below for more details
https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/12790109
Q: Will I get a refund? What is available for a refund?
A: We will be offering refunds for all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made through the Google Store and software transactions (games and add-on purchases) through the Stadia store. Stadia Pro subscriptions are not eligible for refund, however you will be able to continue playing your games in Pro without further charges until the final wind down date.
Q: Do I have to return my hardware to get a refund?
A: Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made directly from Google will not need to be returned. More details on how to obtain a refund for your Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks.
Q: How/When will I get my refund?
A: We are working through this process now and will keep this article updated as we define the process for each of the countries and different situations. Our intent is to have the majority of refunds processed back to the original payment by January 18, 2023.
Q: Are you refunding my Stadia Pro subscription?
A: We will not be refunding Stadia Pro subscriptions. Players who held an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription entitlements during the shut-down period.

Dear Community,
I am quite upset about the recent communication regarding the decision to close the service permanently in January next year. As a founder, I feel really sad about the decision and for not having fully believed in the service by completely failing on the communication and marketing strategy. I hope that in the future the service can rise from its ashes by meeting a public more ready to welcome a revolutionary technology ahead of its time.

Please let's say we're going to do something, do it right and stick with it for once. Google home is a mess, voice/messager/meet/hangouts/duo is a mess and now you destroyed stadia instead of fixing what was broken. Get your $&## together Google.
Hello,
My subscription renewed on 9/25 just 4 days before the announcement. The Stadia Announcement FAQ mentions that people who have an active pro sub as of Sept 29th will not be charged during the shut down period. Since I barely started my month, I think it would be fair to get a refund as well.
Thank you
@Jestun Stadia Pro subscription is non refundable unfortunately so there's no way around it. In any case, make sure to cancel your Pro sub (like I did this morning after hearing the news) and enjoy the Pro games until Jan 2023.
@Ivan That's what I thought. In any case, I was able to get a credit on my credit card (Chase), so it's all good.
Since I can't assume there is anything else I can use my stadia controller with, it'd be nice if google/stadia could release some code for the stadia controller so it'd be likely someone would create a way to use it with steam or retro pi.
Hi @pcfascist
The Stadia controller works with Steam when plugged in with a cable. ![]()
Thanks, I'm aware, but I'd rather have support for wireless. Perhaps if the right code were released wireless support would be added for several platforms.
now that stadia is shutting down can the stadia controller be unlocked somehow to use with other services?
Google has to makf it bluetooth-able.
Until now i was able to use it outside of stadia, when i started i game from Stadia and then quit the game. The stadia controller was still on and i could use it outside stadia.
Same question from my side. Very unfortunate though because, as of the articles written on the Web, Google with its high financial /tech knowledge but specially all those endless resources, couldn't make it once again the right way, with one of their services. I like the stadio controller a lot and it would be great if Google would open up all its futures and possibilities, so we can at least find a use.
is there chance if you bring fortnite on stadia you going to get so many players coming to stadia just to play fortnite then stadia never going to winding down anymore then all the players will come stadia just to play fortnite or any other game on stadia store please bring it back @StadiaTeam
Since Google has officially announced that they will shut down Stadia, they will definitely not bring Fortnite to the platform ^^
But even if they did, I doubt that this particular game would have saved the platform itself? Just speculation at this point though, shut down means shut down.
@far987 I honestly wouldn't expect more to be honest. I understand where you're coming from, but it's now time to move on from Stadia. Make sure to cancel your Stadia Pro subscription if you're currenly subbed, and let's enjoy the Pro games and whatever games you currently own until the server is finally turned off in January.
Will the controllers get a software update to make them atleast Bluetooth usable for computers or phones for other gaming.
@Brbttrdcod we don't know yet. A lot of requests, but at this point we'll just have to wait and see.
It would be a should a shame to have all of this perfectly nice bricks laying around now that stadia is shutting down
hello. aproximately one year ago i bought Red dead redeption 2 on stadia and i received the controller, the cromecast and is nice psu with ethernet. recently i discovered that stadia wants shut down. since my controller was opened for removing microphone, i don't know if i should keep my controller or i should forcedly give back for refound. in my opinion since was given for free if you bought any eligible game, i think when i ask refound i should get the game price back.
thanks
Hi @Lampadina_17 they will refund everything other than Pro subscription. Please take a look at the article below for more details
https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/12790109
still doesn’t respond to my specific question. if i want keep my disassembled controller im still eligible to only game refund?
edit
@Lampadina_17 The screenshot you provided, which was included in the link I gave you above specifically said
Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made directly from Google will not need to be returned.
It's definitely up to interpretation what they mean by 'most' (they also sold random stuff like the claw), but safe bet that they won't care about your disasembled controller, considering you're not required to return it. You will get the refund either way. The only thing that matter is that you have proof that you purchased the hardware through Google store.
Thanks for clarification. i still have receipt of payment
Okay so I used multiple different payment methods to buy the games I have on stadia so I have two questions will the DLCs I bought be refunded and number two some of the payment methods I used I no longer have who would I contact to see about this could I have a prepaid credit card sent in the mail or something?
