What today’s message about Stadia means for players

Stadia players, you may already have seen the message shared on Google’s main blog. This is a short recap of the most important information for players from the main post:    

 

  • You will continue to have access to your games library through January 18, 2023 so you can complete final play sessions and move your progress to alternate platforms where possible.

  • Commerce functionality (the ability to buy games, new subscriptions, add-ons or in-game purchases) on Stadia has now been disabled.

  • Google will offer a full refund of all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Stadia Founder’s Edition, Stadia Premiere Edition, or Play and Watch with Google TV Package) made in the Google Store and all purchases of games and in-game transactions made in the Stadia Store. 

  • The refund process will take us some time to complete, and we expect to have the majority of refunds completed by the middle of January 2023. Please allow us until this time before contacting our support team regarding the status of your refund(s).

  • Stadia Pro subscription payments will not be eligible for refund, but if you are an active subscriber, you will continue to have access to your library without charge during the shut-down period.

 

As we begin the work of processing refunds to customers, Stadia customer service agents will not be able to provide more information to you at this time. For information and updates, please review the information on our Help Center, which will include new information as it becomes available. We’ll also contact players directly via email shortly with more information.

 

We want to thank you for taking this journey with us: in particular, the Founders and fans who have been with us from the beginning. The Stadia team poured the same passion for games into our work building and supporting Stadia as you have shown us each day in your play.

i searching my stadia payment hitory can i see it direct in stadia or about google ? because my google subscribtion and payment list are empty but this cant be true i have payet something....

Even easier, go to pay.google.com it list's your Stadia purchases as well as HW purchases through the Google Store

Yes, go to stadia app and tap on your profile icon. There you tap on buys and Abos.

How exactly will this work? Via the purchase payment methods or as a credit in the GoogleStore, for example, my Paypal no longer exists..

you make a purchase via credit, when it gets refunded it is refunded as credit. If you paid off the transaction already, the money will be refunded to you via the way you paid off the credit purchase.

Q: Will I get a refund?  What is available for a refund? 

A:  We will be offering refunds for all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made through the Google Store and software transactions (games and add-on purchases) through the Stadia store. Stadia Pro subscriptions are not eligible for refund, however you will be able to continue playing your games in Pro without further charges until the final wind down date.

 

Q: Do I have to return my hardware to get a refund? 

A:  Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made directly from Google will not need to be returned. More details on how to obtain a refund for your Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks. 

 

Q:  How/When will I get my refund?

A: We are working through this process now and will keep this article updated as we define the process for each of the countries and different situations. Our intent is to have the majority of refunds processed back to the original payment by January 18, 2023.  

 

Q: Are you refunding my Stadia Pro subscription? 

A: We will not be refunding Stadia Pro subscriptions. Players who held an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription entitlements during the shut-down period.

Well i left Stadia for a gaming pc a long time ago well just seen the news this will be closed down soon well all i got to say is told you. I did a post saying if the big games did not come it would never make it well guess what it happen. All the hate i got for the post but you fanboys closed your eyes to the truth.

Yeah we "fanboys" have been too optimistic maybe, but I really enjoyed playing my games on Stadia, so at least I had a nice time.

But yeah you can say now "I have told you" and you're right at the very end ^^

@Viridian3965 First of all I'm really sorry that you got hate for expressing your opinion. And I'm glad you get to say "told you" and proven right. I'm not sure how you can be happy about this, but hey you do you.

But can I suggest having some dose of sympathy instead? There have been various sources saying that most Stadia employees were only informed about Stadia shutting down 45 minutes before the blog went out. As of yesterday they were just working on launching the new Stadia UI, and releasing Fifa 2023. In Twitter you can find many Indie developers posting about how they've been working hard these past few months or even years, trying to launch games on Stadia, and now it basically amount to nothing.

Stadia gamers may lost a lot today, but at least they'll be getting refunds to soften the below. But how about Stadia employees that weren't informed about anything until this morning, but now are forced to scramble to look for other opportunities within the company, or outside? Same case with game developers that have been hired to work on Stadia games, only to find out their service is no longer needed. Ever thought about how they feel? 

Again, there's nothing that excuses the hate that you get from these "fanboys". It's unacceptable. But maybe also try to think about the bigger picture.

No i'm never happy about stuff like this that was never my point. My point was that people had to stop the fanboy stuff saying everything google would do was ok when it was not. I think if people would of worked with google on saying hey look you need to change stuff like this or you will never make it could of helped Stadia get going. I told everyone that if the big games would not come it has zero chance or selling games was a bad idea just do pro only this is what you get would of been a good move.

Sympathy? Google should just stick to their guns and let Stadia live. If stadia is the way of the future, as so many people are hell bent on belive that game streaming will ever be successful, then google just just bet heavier and the money will come eventually, if the bet is right

My post was not me happy about it gone i did not want to see this happen if anything im sad for the fans that still use it. My issue was the fanboys that would never tell google what had to be fixed but would always say you are doing a great job. People like that killed Stadia from the start we had to get the games with out that Stadia never had a chance.

I mean it's hard not to be. It's less about being happy in your failure to recognize the outcome present in the future, as much as it is I reveling in my intellect about how correct my prediction was about how things would go. If Google would have only just listened to real hardcore gamers they wouldn't I assume be in this hole they are in, dismantling this service in some way or other

So, how the title says. What will happen with my schreenshots and videos after Stadia shuts down. Will I still be able to acces them or is there at least way to save(download) them all without downloading each one after another?

This should have been unlocked from the **bleep**ing start. Google is a stupid short sighted company run by stupid short sighted people, but for **bleep**'s sake there is no reason to have been this stupid about the controller. 

Now that Google has finally come to the realization that everyone who isnt a complete idiot came to the day they announced this stupid venture.....the time has come for them to finally do the thing they said they would do but kept kicking the can down the road to be a future problem. Well dumbasses it's the end of the line and there is no road left to kick the can down.

Unlock the Bluetooth you should have had unlocked at launch.

@Rio425ee I definitely hope bluetooth will be unlocked so the controller can be used with other platform. Make sure to send feedb... oh nevermind, let's just wait whether it will be unlocked or not.

Lol Google has never once listed to community feedback which is why the killed by Google graveyard is so large. The feedback button is like a mailbox shoot that leads directly to a shredder.

Try telling any Google product that you aren't interested in seeing a specific type of recommendation, YouTube, discover, yt tv(which is the most egregious of theme, as you don't even need to refresh to see they ignored that you selected don't show me this) and every other Google product ignore your attempts to say you don't want to see something. And we have been giving them feedback for a decade to stop doing that. 

Google is a bad company doesn't listen to anyone and keeps failing because of it.

I violently disagree with this. I respect many of Google's products because they gather feedback and I can send it anytime. They absolutely do use this feedback in product improvements, even if it may not happen exactly the way you want or even at all.

Even though I disagree with the wording, I strongly agree with the message - please enable Bluetooth so we can still use the brilliant controller and don't have to throw it away.

I also really love the controller.
