What about Dolby 5.1

Jump to Best Response
Hi all, I got my new Stadia. Works great for me. But I am missing the Dolby 5.1 Surround sound. In the manual you can read it should working. I have 6 games, but its not working in one of them. If I am looking Netflix over Chromcast, its working. Means, my surround receiver is doing its job. What can I do?

Ah, I found the solution now. Setting TV and AV Receiver to PCM gives pure 5.1 Surround Sound.

This is an important information for all users with the same problem.

Hey,

So I found sth that fixed it for me :

  1. Go to the Google Home App
  2. Select your Chromecast Ultra
  3. Go to the settings
  4. Select Surround sound Mode AC3/EAC3

Then restart your chromecast. My TV gets a PCM 5.1 signal after this and Stadia does too.

Sometime the sound is glitching when I start the game (Cyberpunk) but if you relaunch it it works for me.

Hope that helped

Do you see the 5.1 logo on the Stadia Connection Quality tab while in-game?  What's your connection quality?

I've read other people saying that what gets it working for them is to start casting something else like Netflix with a 5.1 track first, then start casting Stadia again.

Its not working for me. In Netflix and Amazon I have Dolby Digital 5.1. but if I switch to Stadio its only Stereo.

Hi @ox_eye! After doing a bit of analysis on my end, some other users are reporting that hard-rebooting your CCU through the Google Home app solved this issue. Give that a try and report back.

Ok, but how should this be helpful? Because every night I switch off everything. Its the same like a hard-reboot?

Hi again! Give this a shot first, and if that doesn't work, take a look at the article on how to factory reset your device. Please keep in mind that factory resetting will clear your data from the device.

I can't get 5.1 either, I have the logo in the stadia info but the tv/soundbar says I'm still in stereo. Everything else in CCU plays 5.1 except stadia. Do you have to switch back from PCM to get 5.1 for everything except stadia?

@TheOldGuy

No, I can leave everything on PCM mode. If there is a bitstream singnal from Netflix or Amazon, my AV receiver stwitches to DD 5.1 automatically.

@ox_eye

Are you using eARC to pass audio through tv to sound system, looks like my soundbar will only handle PCM through eARC and my tv is only ARC. I have seen suggestions that I have to plug my CCU directly into soundbar

No, I have an option in my TV sound menü, where I can switch on/off PCM. And in my AV receiver I can also choose PCM. If I plug in my CCU directly in the AV receiver its also working with 5.1. But then I have only 1080p, because its not a 4k  receiver.

Thanks @ox_eye

I wonder why they are not just using Dolby 5.1.

Stadia needs to support Dolby. I am in the same boat since my sound bar does not support 4k passthrough

All three thumbs up for Dolby support. PCM is a big hassle if everything is set up for Netflix etc and most often it only works after starting the game the second time.

What's going on with this? I have my CCU plugged into my AV receiver. It sends a PCM stream which appears to only be stereo as the receiver sets to pro logic.

I tested few things in my scenario.
1- CCU connected to Denom AVR 891 using HDMI.
2- factory reset CCU

3- setup CCU using google HOme App and Stadia App.
4- play GRID is 5.1 sorround sound

3- play PUBG it’s 2 channel only not 5.1

After I tried I don’t seem to have any issue with surround sound setup. Just remember that not all games are 5.1 channel. some are 5.1 and some are not.
other than that factory reset solved the 5.1 problem.

So are youre connecting the CCU to the AVR and you're getting 5.1 and 4k?

I have been reporting the problem for a long time, stadia games do not have support for Dolby sound, they only have PCM 5.1 audio, it is not bad audio quality. In the computer with my 5.1 equipment it works perfect, and chromecast ultra or in the new chromecast goolge tv are compatible with dolby sound, but stadia does not emit the sound in this technology for any of its games and neither does it let the user choose, with the result Nowadays almost no television is capable of sending PCM 5.1 sound to its AV equipment, all this problem would be solved if Stadia gave the option to choose how we want the audio for games in the same way that we do with consoles.

I had my ccu connected to my Panasonic FZ800. I used ARC to my Denon avr 5400. Netflix and other streaming services worked perfect but no 5.1 with stadia, only stereo.

I then connected my ccu to my Denon receiver. Still no 5.1. Then i found the sound mode buttons on my Denon remote.. From there i could chose from several sound format. Toggled to DD. That did the trick.
