What EXACTLY happens with usernames if we stop paying for Pro?

I noticed in the reddit AMA a mention of having numbers in the name for non-Pro members but not having numbers in a Pro subscription. Let's say I signed up with the username 'Katie' as a founder. Obviously I keep the name Kate for 3 months then decide to stay on Stadia but as a free member, (so no longer a Pro member). The following, (somewhat interlinked) questions then arise:

-Can somebody else signing up as a Pro claim the name 'Katie'?
-Will my name stay as 'Katie' for ever and nobody else can claim it?
-If somebody else can and does claim the name 'Katie' as a new Pro, do I become 'Katie001' or something without my saying so?
-Perhaps there is a time limit (e.g. 1 year) after which a new Pro member could claim 'Katie'?

(I'm already aware I would lose the founders badge and that it would come back if I signed up again).

Special names are for founder accounts. Highly unlikely you will ever lose this status or have your name changed. Subscription level is not a factor.

I half thought that but then why would they say it 'reverts to a standard stadia name'?

Your subscription service reverts from pro to standard. Your name should never change once selected. Founders will always be founders regardless of subscription model. I've never seen any info on names getting changed based on service.

I would assume that Google is using the same system like for gmail-addresses, so I would think that taken namens are taken forever and that there is no reset or deletion of an existing name (because there is always a chance that a customer is coming back), even if you delete your account. See here, how it works for Gmail (in "The username I want is taken").

Of course the only one who knows this system are probably the developers, so as I am really curious about your question too, I would recommend to leave feedback in the Stadia App for clarification about this or even in the Stadia helpcenter, so that Google can work on an article about this.

Good suggestion. I thought this effectively was the stadia help centre here! Did you mean somewhere else?

@EmperorK, yeah kind of. This here is the Stadia communityforum, so it's more life in here.

What I meant was the Stadia helpcenter though, see here, where you can leave feedback for articles there. So it might be worth to leave feedback there for an article that explains what happens to usernames. I submit feedback for this as well the same way, maybe it helps if more people are wishing the same thing. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

So I managed to get onto a chat and the transcript is as follows. He didn't seem to fully understand what I was asking. Chances are English may not be his first language but he was helpful nonetheless. Only issue I have is the reddit AMA says it reverts to a 'base' (free user) name, which seems inconsistent with the following, (though I weirdly can't find that reference anymore so maybe it's not the case). Also very weird that any pro user from now will have numbers in their name:

(Forgive the weird formatting, I had to edit and adapt to remove my name and a few bits).

Thanks for contacting us! My name is Lloyd. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about Stadia.

Me 7:02:13 PMPlease feel free to give me a detailed answer!

Lloyd7:03:20 PMOk, just give me 2 to 3 mins, let me check this one, thanks

Me 7:03:27 PMThank you

Me 7:04:21 PMTake your time, so long as the final answer is in full and correct as it is hard to get this info haha

Lloyd7:09:23 PMCan somebody else signing up as a Pro claim the name 'Katie'? - If your a founders edition user you´ll keep the name until you want to change it.

Lloyd7:10:11 PMWill my name stay as 'Katie' for ever and nobody else can claim it? - No they will not get the Katie, they will advice to get another unique name for their account.

Lloyd7:10:55 PMf somebody else can and does claim the name 'Katie' as a new Pro, do I become 'Katie001' or something without my saying so? - Only non founder edition user will get a number on the name.

Me 7:11:56 PMBut what happens with these same questions if the founder stops paying for stadia pro after the first 3 months has finished?

Lloyd7:12:33 PMPerhaps there is a time limit (e.g. 1 year) after which a new Pro member could claim 'Katie'? NO, It...

Me 7:13:57 PMThank you for those answers, they make sense for a founder who keeps paying for Pro, but what happens if they stop paying for pro and continue as a free user?

Lloyd7:19:02 PMf the founder stops paying for Stadia pro after the first 3 months has finished? - You still own the name for the rest of your fill, of course if you delete your Stadia account the Katie name will be available to you.

Lloyd7:19:56 PMIf the founder stops paying for Stadia pro after the first 3 months has finished? - You still own the name for the rest of your life, of course if you delete your Stadia account the Katie name will be available to you.

Me 7:20:15 PMOK, so if I stop paying for Pro as a founder and my stadia name is Katie, it will stay as Katie without any extra numbers for ever unless I delete my account?

Me 7:20:46 PMAnd if a new user signs up as a pro and I am at that time a free user, they cannot take the name Katie and I will keep the name Katie

Me 7:21:00 PMAnd all I lose is my founders badge

Me 7:21:04 PMIs that all correct?

Lloyd7:21:18 PMYes, it will stay as Katie.

Me 7:21:27 PMThank you so much!

Me 7:21:41 PMCan I have this chat emailed to me?

Me 7:21:56 PMI have one final question

Lloyd7:22:06 PMYes they will not get your name, first come first serve basis.

Lloyd7:22:25 PMSure. no problem.

Me 7:22:47 PMIf a new user signs up as a free user, they may have to have numbers on their name. If they then pay for pro, do those numbers get removed? Or do they apply to change their name?

Me 7:22:52 PMI'm not sure how it works for them

Lloyd7:24:32 PMOnly the Founder has the power to own the Name without number.

Me 7:25:29 PMSo even a new member who immediately signs up as a Pro but is not a founder will have to have numbers?

Lloyd7:28:22 PMYup that correct!

Me

7:30:37 PMWhat will their name actually be if it has to have numbers

Me

7:31:04 PMSo the name 'Katie' would be what? Katie000? Katie 1?

Lloyd

7:32:38 PMYes, They will automatically have the number on their names.

Me

7:33:00 PMAnd if it's the first time that name has been used, what will that number be?

Lloyd

7:36:46 PMIts a random generated number, and your friend only see the number when they go to your profile.

Me

7:37:07 PMOK thanks. That was it! Please could you email that again

Me

7:37:10 PM Thanks for your time

He didn't answer your question about the founders badge, that should stay in place as well, since that is not a Pro element, it is a founders.

I think somewhere in the ama on reddit it mentions losing the badge if you stop paying for pro

Hey all, I was just wondering whether anyone has gone through this process and whether it is as was advised?

Question to anyone who is no longer a Pro user but was a founder: What does your username look like now?

Second question to anyone who was a founder, then stopped paying but has then started paying again, what happened to your username when you stopped and what does it look like now? Is it the same as when you signed up initially?

@EmperorK

Once a founder, always a founder. Your username remains unchanged.
