I was a founder of Stadia when it first came out. I enjoyed it a lot for those first three months, no problems at all whatsoever. But towards the end of my Pro subscription trial, I've been getting huge input lag spikes while playing. Doesn't matter which game, doesn't matter when I play. The game will run fine for a few seconds, then have a fit of lag that causes a full second of delay between button presses and the action happening on screen. That random spike seems to last for around 5-6 seconds before returning to normal, then I get another lag spike a few seconds later again. Then it will continue this pattern until I just give up and turn it off. I don't know what has changed since the first couple months, but it is just unplayable. I obviously didn't re-sub to the Pro membership, I wanted to wait until this problem was fixed. Since I got the free 2 month promotion, I decided to give it another shot, and it still happens. I should also add that at the end of every session with the survey, I always put my experience as "Bad" listing input lag as the reason. I'm pretty sure I did that survey around 10-15 times. (Just for additional info, this problem happens on both my Chromecast and my PC, which I tried wifi and an ethernet cable for both of them.)
Worst case, it could be your ISP throtteling you while streaming. Thing is, i haven't had any problems at all here in germany, even on peak times, with CCU or chrome browser (used with stadia+ extension).. Maybe it depends on different loads of the datacentres?
But silly question, have you tried to shut down your router for a while and then restart it?
Go in the Stadia app, in your Profile, under Data Usage & Performance, and set it to the lowest. Restart your router/modem, and launch the game. Let us know whether or not this helps.
Just tried setting to lowest setting and restarting router, it did not change anything, it's the exact same behavior.
Does this occur on every game you've tried or a specific one? Can you do a speedtest while the game is running and share the results? Just want to eliminate as much as possible the usual suspects.
Heyho,
i am having the same problem with german vodafone. All tests are good (m-labs 209MBit, speedtest.net ~200Mbit), ping to stadia.com and stadia.google.com about 13-16 ms, but no success. Line is of poor quality and then no connection (directly attached via 1gbit to router, rebooted router, same with ultracast and chrome, with reduced quality etc...) Anyone else?
Regards
@Streamer
It does occur on every game. Some games seem to have it worse than others. Borderlands 3 for example has it the absolute worst, while Final Fantasy 15 is not quite as bad. I just did a speed test while a game was running, and the results came to; Ping 7, Download 870.42 Mbps, Upload 942.52 Mbps.
Are you able to run the game on Mobile? If yes, give that a try. The only other obvious thing I can think of would be some settings in your TV for HDR game mode that could be to blame.
Your issue does not appear network-related(at least on the surface), so if you are able to test this on a cellphone or tablet, it should get us even closer to getting you up and running.
If it fails still on Mobile, then a network set-up could be the cause. In that case, I would advise you to contact the Support team for further assistance: https://support.google.com/stadia/?hl=en#topic=9495216&contact=1
@Streamer
Sadly, I can't test on mobile, my phone isn't compatible and I don't own any tablets. I appreciate the help though, and I'll try going through the support team.
It's exactly the same for me. I have absolutely perfect timeframes of about 30-60 seconds which are interrupted by the same 5 seconds lag spikes, where the screen gets pixelated and the controls are stuck on the last action from the start of the lag. On Zombie Army, this means that my character is turning for the whole duration of the lag.
Our internet connection is superb and not used at all and our LAN setup is top-notch.
I wish someone could assist us with some in-depth diagnostics.
@makitango what device do you play on, amd do you use the stadia controller?
@Babaganuche7 I‘ve tried everything, literally.
Home Setup: 100/40 mbps WAN connection, with me being the only one using it. I diagnosed traffic, Stadia always peaked out at around 30/4 mbps, never more. That left more than 70/90 % of bandwidth free as overhead, my ping being at around 7-15 ms.
Hardware: VDSL modem in bridge mode with VLAN tagging supported, letting my Google WiFi stay free of double NAT issues. My WiFi hubs are always at full bar connection quality and have Stadia streaming preferring option enabled. All my devices are in close proximity of around 3-4 m of them, in direct sight.
Device setup (tried it on all):
Pixel Slate i7 with PS4 controller, wireless both: Often had a game startup connection error issue. Once I was in the game it was stable, besides the aforementioned issue every 30/60 seconds. Though its WiFi performance by itself is, as we know it, not super stable.
MBA 2015, maxed out: wired PS4 controller, same issue with the 30/60 second issue. No matter if I use Windows, macOS or the cloudready ChromeOS solution (which still allows me to use the PS4 controller wireless, hehe. lazy Sony devs).
iMac 2019x maxed out: wired controller, same issue every 30/60 seconds. macOS, Windows, doesn‘t matter.
I firmly believe it’s not controller-related. This is not just a hanging input lag, it is also a streaming hiccup. Like I said, the screen gets pixelated, just like when you are watching an unbuffered unstable stream. I think this is very much connected.
Is there no one who can look into our traffic data from Google‘s endpoint? I believe the insight could offer some substantial understanding of an overlooked issue.
Also not wanna be that guy, but I too am running days short of Pro and I really can‘t enjoy it right now. I had a blast with Zombie Army with my friends, they seem to have the same issue, but they‘re not living here.
edit: I uploaded a video to show you the incident clearly. Look here
Does your modem keep logs? It might be worth checking in there for any critical errors.
