Unable to play on PC but phone works great on same network.

Hi All -

When I try to play any games on my PC it sails the connection test but the same game will work on my phone without issue.  If I do the test manually I have plenty of band with.  I've also tried this on two different PC's in the house with the same result.  Any one have any ideas?  Thanks for reading!

It might be worth checking to make sure your pc's are on the same wifi band as your phone. Ie. If you have a dual band modem with 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands. There may also be a distance issue. Do you use your phone close to your modem or the same distance as your pc?

Hi, thanks for your response.  I should have mentioned that the the PC is connected directly to the router via Ethernet and the phone is connect to the same router via 2.4 GHz WiFi.

That is very bizarre then. What does a speedtest say your speed is on all devices? You might also try to switch to wifi on your pc, which is not exactly ideal but it may help us figure something out. You might also consider lowering your stream quality in the stadia app. It is worth noting that in my experience, playing on the phone seems to be more lenient if you have a slower connection, meaning that it will allow you to play on your phone, whereas your pc might tell you your connection is too slow. Not sure why this is, but may be your issue?

So, here's another bizarre twist.  I tried launching Stadia in an incognito window and the game actually does launch (which it didn't before).  I was able to play for less than 5 mins during which time I had a lot a video degradation.  Eventually the games kicked me out claim slow internet speeds.  I immediately went to test my connection and got the following message:

"Your connection is great.
Based on your current download speed of 98.267 Mbps, we expect you’ll have a high-performance gaming experience on Stadia."

Very strange. Do you experience any issues on other streaming services? Your connection may just not be stable, but it sounds like it is. You might try restarting the router by unplugging it for 30 seconds if you haven't already.

Ok so, I think I've got it solved as good as I'm going to.  I went to my 2nd PC which is also connected via Ethernet.  I launched an incognito Chrome window and logged in Stadia using that.

This time the games played flawlessly, great video and audio so I guess I'm going to chalk it up to the network card on the first PC (it is rather old).  I am curious to know what plug in is causing me to have to use incognito mode, but that'll be easy enough to find out.

I appreciate all of your help.

Cheers,

Taco
