Does nobody find the graphic quality of the games somewhat low?
I have now compared all games optically with games I have installed. Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy.
My setting:
Internet: 250mbit down / 50mbit up - gaming Fritzbox Router (one of the best I find and optimized for WLAN performance)
Chromecast - Wired
Browser or PC via WLAN 5GHz (but I also tested with Powerline and found there was hardly any difference)
Country: Italy, Austria and Germany. I was able to test everywhere with similar internet.
I also tested Chromium, Chrome Beta and normal Chrome browsers. Here I find that only Chromium brings a slight improvement.
Final Fantasy: Here the Stadia graphics are really the worst in comparison. The PC looks a lot better and even the PS4 version is a lot better. On Chromcast and in Chromebrowser with Stadia, Final Fantasy looks like a Playstation 2 title. No artefacts, but low textures and no antialiasing etc..
Tomb Raider (1): Also little anti-aliasing. Chromecast is better here than via the Chrome Browser. But also here you notice that the textures are rather mediocre to low.
Assassins Creed: I only bought this for Stadia because I love it and when I play it I can watch other things like Youtube or movies on my computer. Otherwise the game actually runs quite well on my computer (the normal PC version). In Stadia the graphic details look medium.
What all of them have in common: It looks "washed-out", not particularly sharp. And this with several settings, from Balanced to Best Picture Quality in the stadia app. (HDR changed nothing for me too)
Input: keyboard + mouse, XBox One controller and Stadia controller. Only with mouse and keyboard I noticed in between that I had an input delay. With the controllers it was instant, at least for me.
By the way, I also tested Destiny 2 and here I only noticed that it sometimes looks washed out, but on the Chromecast almost not at all. It looks almost 1:1 like a normal PC installation. Here was probably much better optimized.
Sorry, if something is not clear or grammaticly not correct, but I am not a native english speaker .-)
I really hope that in the future the "washed-out" look will get away and at least games will be on high graphics quality. And I hope we get some respond from Google about this issue.
Hi @Settus
I also think that some games are "washed-out".
Google said it was up to the developper to manage the graphical setting of their game. The only game directly develop for Stadia is Gylt. He's really beautiful even if I find colors little bit "dull" (I don't know if it's the good word in english ^^').
Apparently Shadow of the Tomb Raider is astonishing in 4K HDR (@razzzar)
I imagine that for the launch the developers have preferred bet on the stability that the quality. I hope patches will be release to adjust the graphics ![]()
@Mogoz I dont know a better description or word for "washed out" - I translated it from German
Just remember that not all problems are related to Stadia itself but rather relates to choices made by the game developers.
Sure Google could have demanded a certain level of performance on all stadia titles, but that obviously is not the case. Instead the developers have a certain freedom to call the shots themselves when it comes to stuff like resolution, framerate, antialiasing and so forth.
Some of the criticism that people seem to have needs to go to the game developers and not just to Stadia/Google.
(As a personal note. I'm quite happy with Stadia. I've been thinking about replacing my ageing PS3 with a more uptodate console lately, but with Stadia in my hands I just don't see any reason to. Sure, Stadia and the games have some problems but none that would make me buy physical console instead.)
Ok, I just made my test with Gylt.
Yes, there is no washed out-look on Chromium and Chromecast. It looks almost perfect, but only without HDR and on Balanced Settings.
In Chrome it looks always wahsed out. And on Chromecast with HDR and high settings in the app too.
But I am surprised how good it looks in comparison to the other games...wow.
Stadia could have given games to people to test and then feedback to game developers and make them patch it before offering any games for a monetary value. They havent done they they posted games very rough and poor quality like Cyberpunk 2077 and then players are having problems due to terrible game quality.
@Settus I come from PC I have Assassin's Creed, Rdr2, Gylt and Nba2k20 on Stadia and they are in par on the graphic level specially on my Chromebook.pro.
The only game I remember to be prettier on PC was Destiny 2.
I am not sure for you however from what I have gathered quality of the connection seems to be a issue more then speed of connection. You should try a jitter and loss packet test specially on prime hours.
@Northlight As far as my research brought up...many users have the problem.
Jitter (at least here) is 4ms.
Makes no sense to me, when Destiny and GYLT is good enough and has no problems .-) (the washed out problem)
There is nothing good enough on my side the graphic are clean and the texture crips however I do not have a 4k TV.
My Chromebook pro has a very high resolution and it look stunning but it is of course not TV size.
It make no sense to you because you refuse to considered that the issue is partly internal. It's easier that way.
Some german stadia users - me included - have the problem that 4k is not working since monday. could that be your problem too?

Ive noticed the same issue. Im playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Stadia Pro and Geforce Now (free version) using a PC. The difference is significant with the Stadia version looking very washed out in comparison. At the moment my experience using Geforce Now is far superior. It may be because GFN allows to play the game on the highest graphics settings, even on the free version, whilst on Stadia the only option to improve the visual experience is to use a 4k screen. I hope they resolve this issue soon.
